    You better have a look at this thread from the Bricked Wii section. Let me put it this way: @ 4.0, you're fine where you're at. There's no real improvement @ 4.1 (most definitely 0 improvement @ 4.2, or 4.3 --- not to mention, no softmodding method on the latter as yet).

    Updating to 4.2 would brick you, but it is NOT automatic, all updates ask you first.

    No game requires a specific firmware to play it, some games WILL require an ios update, which you can do manually to avoid problems with disc updates.

    If it is region changed, then be very, VERY careful what you do with it.

    Thanks guys, so does that mean I can still connect to the internet and do multiplayer with no problems, as long as I cancel the update prompts?

    Why don't you install Priiloader and enable disc and online update blocking?

    Alright, I got it, thanks for all your help guys! I was able to get my wii up and running and playing homebrews and backups, without any bricking!
