Exclamation Code red guys, cat pissed on Wii, I need help

I know it's my first time posting, and I sincerely wanted to post a "thank you" or "awesome guide" when I was reading all the tutorial stuff, but once I found this out, it kinda took priority. I doubt I can use the forum search tool with "cat pissed on wii" but I gave that a shot and all I got were angry posts (and "urinated" brought nothing). I have bolded all the details I think are relevant for easier reading.

    Problem:
My cat, Pissed. On. My. Wii.
I dunno whytf she would do that, but it happened. I carry the Wii in a sports bag and the zip was open. I don't know how long it's been or the extent of the damage, but the urine was crusted. It was everywhere. Controllers, games, everything. My hand is shriveling from holding too many disinfectant wipes for too long.

As far as the Wii goes, I could only say it looked like the shell protected it, but it definitely got inside. I haven't opened it or anything, but the shitty part about urine is you don't need to cause you can smell it a mile away.

I fired the Wii up and everything boots and starts normally. I thought it everything was fine, and then I tried to eject the game that was still inside. It ejects fine, but the mechanism that pushes the disc out has problems:

    • Trying to play a game won't work, it says there's a problem and to restart the Wii/Consult the troubleshoot/blah (there are worrying noises when the disc is trying to be read)
    • It won't stop pushing once the disc is out
    • If I try to put a disc in, the it doesn't read there's a disc and it does nothing
    • I can only put in a disc if I press the eject button and wait for the mechanism to start the disc-in noise

Because the software seems fine and the problem seems to be a very centralized one (I hope), it seems within reason to replace the parts and get it all done. Any suggestions at all would be so very helpful. I don't want to buy a new one, this is my baby I bought with my own money near release-date

sounds like you are in trouble. you can possibly try replacing the dvd drive, thats not too expensive maybe around 100 bucks. or you can get an external 1tb for about the same price and use the usb loader.

You could also try disassembling the Wii and cleaning the DVD drive with isopropyl alcohol or a similar electronic 'contact cleaner' (obviously this depends on exactly where the urine got, and whether you mind stinking the place out while you clean!). Hope you find a solution.

Both those ideas actually sound excellent, but how does this 1tb installing work, and where can I buy the isopropyl? And is that special screwdriver sold in local stores? I live in a pretty handy town, so if it's on the market I think it'd be in those shops.

I'm going for a DriveKey mod, going to go with craigslist for this though, hence interest in the 1tb

    1. Cleaning the drive with contact cleaner may work but as urine is acid based the damage may be just starting. My advice is to have it pulled apart and check for damage first, as the acid in the urine will continue to do damage if left.

    2. You need a tri-wing screwdriver to pull the Wii apart, available through Mod shops or Ebay etc

    3. If it is only the drive that is damaged you could softmod using different methods and install a SD/USB loader with a external HD connected, it just means you will have to download images and copy them to that Hard Drive as your DVD drive is busted.

    4. One package is Wii Softmods for Dummies which I find very easy to use and has all programs and PDF with diagrams incorporated. This and other programs you can find under the Tutorials Section.

    5. You could do this before buying a modchip as a interim or permanent fix, whilst assessing if Wii will last distance.

    6. ModderMan may have some other ideas or even be able to service unit for you, depending on your location.

I hope this is some assistance.

That f'ing sucks, thank you for the heads up. I'll get it worked on asap.

Your whole post (as well as the others) has been incredibly helpful, I'm pretty certain the answer lies in one of these suggestions.

I'll research the rest and read up on the tutorials. I'll def ask questions if I have any. Seeing as my warranty is out (I'm sure by now), I'm relentless in making my Wii above and beyond standard.

    Thanks again!
