    Please help......noob

I am new to all this, but have tried googling stuff, and its confusing me even more!

I have a chipped wii (not sure what chip) its firmware is 3.1e and i don't have homebrew (maye would like to one day - but too scared at the moment!)

Prolem is I have guitar hero world tour - its an original disk. When I put it in it wants to update. I haven't done it as I wasn't sure. I've been googling stuff and trying to find out what to do.

So far I have come to the conclusion that as my orginal disk is PAL and my wii is 3.1e thats fine. I'm hoping that my chipped wii shouldn't be a problem either. I have firmware 3.1 and that will most probably change if I update. I do not have homebrew but when I pluck up the courage and understand it a bit more may like to try it, so if my firmware changes to say 3.4 will that be a problem? (I don't know if the stuff i've googled is out of date!) Also am I right in saying that although I have wii connect 24 turn off, if I update and get 3.4 I may not be able to control this any more and Nintendo will be able to update with or without my consent.....thats whats stopping me

If anyone has updated and could put me out of my misery
    Thanks

The answers/solutions are posted all over this forum in countless places. Also, if you read the site rules (which you didn't or we wouldn't be having this discussion), you would see that you are to search the site - before posting.

Since you have so many questions, I would suggest going to the Suggested Faqs and Tutorials section of the site as well as Other Faqs and Tutorials. I doubt anyone will spell it out for you here as it's a lot of information that is already posted more than once.

I was having a nice moment (which ironically strikes during PMS, hahaha) so thought I would at least POINT to the FAQs.

Y'know, I don't think I was ever a noob either, TS. I read this forum for WEEKS before I even BOUGHT the Wii (Homebrew was the only reason I wanted one, LOL) and wouldn't ya know, everything went without a hitch including Starfall. Also waited a few weeks to do the 4.0 update until there was a safe/preferred way to do it.

Am I especially smart or have a programming degree. Nope. I just READ. And if I don't understand, I read MORE. If I, a 40-something female whose last experience with Nintendo was an SNES, can do this without being a noob ... well, then you ALL can do this! Don't get overanxious ... take your time to do it right. If you don't think you can be patient, have a look at all the "I accidentally updated to 4.0 before I tried to install Homebrew" posts and see what overanxious can do to ya.

Off my soap box for the night and headed for the ice cream.

I don't know if you noticed but it seems like they don't exactly like noobs around here, I understand that there are answers all over but I still don't think its right how they answer so rudely and pretty much break there own rules(which I did read by the way) of bigotry!
ie: rule D. it says not to be rude or flame groups of people. well aren't noobs a group of people? and yes I have seen Rude comments to noobs all over the board! I completely understand how much work it is to run/work on a site( I am an admin on a non related site) and I understand that repeated questions can get annoying believe me we have people come and go all the time who don't contribute a lick to my site. But do you have to be so rude about it. You never know a noob may end up being your biggest financial Donor in the future if you be nice!!
you could always make a nice post about searching the site (ie Please read all threads and search for your answer in search box before asking a question) and save it and just paste it whenever there are posts that are already answered elsewhere!! Yes I know you have it posted on the site, but not everyone knows how to use websites so a little helpful reply such as this just may help them learn! anywho that's my food for thought..

Now tanyamichelle;91023 Here is an answer I found.....

(Q from p1) When i try connecting to the internet, the first thing my wii does it updating the firmware. I heard that doing this will destroy the wii chip (i think mine is wiikey, im not sure), and thus, you will not be able to play games from other regions. is this true?

    Answer)
yes, not only will it destroy your chip but it will also knock up your sister and take all your money.

(P1) No it won't cos i allready did

    __________________

it's just the softmods that have issues with updates that Nintendo release.
just make sure the game you update from is from the same region as your wii.
also make sure the chip has the latest firmware on it

I hope I helped, Just try rephrase your question a few time on google next time u will eventually get your answer!

Edited: to shorten my quoted section

you, tnpogoholic, are one smart person.

    @kristymb
Groups of people means races. we are trying to stop noobs pissing around this forum making a mess. and you happen to be implying that if everyone was a noob once, they all made horrible mistakes and get themselves sent to the reading room. this is not so. some people start of good, read the rules (like tnpogoholic) and dont get raped by the mods. others ask stupid questions, dont bother reading ANYTHING and think they are so good and they can post anywhere. these are the ones we call "noobs." in which case, they should learn to be better or else. and just cos you are a mod or whatever at another forum, doesnt mean it has anything to do with us. because you see, you are not a mod here, and all noobs will be dealt with accordingly.

I would have sent this in a pm, but I figured you would just ban me for pming staff

No you are right I am not a mod here, but there is such a thing as admin, and or Website Etiquette! I have never seen a mod, and or Admins ( at any website) so rude to the people, as you ThetaSigma;91743 are. and Groups of people can mean alot more than just races I said I didn't mean any offense. I just don't get why you are so angry with the world you are the one who i see Being so mean to all these people, not the other staff, and then waiting till they get sent to the reading room and laughing about it. And your supposed to be the "Virtual Welcoming assistant"? What about all the rules your breaking? You post a lot of non thread related stuff on a lot of threads.( you see I have been doing my reading) I'm sure 90% of these people really don't know there doing wrong!! They don't think they are better than everyone else. They just want Help from a website they thought was going to help them!
If they don't ask questions how are they going to learn?

No but I did read in the rules and I quote: from ****MAY 3/09-[Updating in Progress] Forum Rules ...Helpful Guidelines ****
    1) Spamming, Flaming and Abusing other Members None of the above will be tolerated in any way
    7. Flaming Here, flaming falls under the definition of directly calling another member a derogatory word, or clearly insinuating that a derogatory word in your post applies to a member or group of members.
    B. Trolling Trolling is a less serious form of flaming {see III.A}, and at the same time broader. This is mostly comments that clearly belittle another member or make them feel unwelcome.

Don't worry I won't post on this thread anymore to give you a reason to send me to the RR!! and laugh about it!

Bottom line; One should at least use the search function...
How do you think they found this place: They probly typed in google or yahoo
Wii hacks or maybe Wii hacking... And Bingo you find what your looking for.
