Is it OK to go online with wiikey

I have a wiikey installed in my console.

Is it ok for me to go online with this in my console.

I was told by my modder to connect it wirelessly & let it update the firmware.
    Is this ok to do.

Can i play others online with my backed up games with a wiikey in the machine.

thanks a bunch for your help

    Bart the Noob

So far so good.. it has been working well online and off..

Yes make sure to connect it up and you are running the latest firmware... this will prevent it from being bricked..

    yea

yea everything is working just fine, I am waiting for a software update that blocks mod chips but it makes me happy to see hardware updates, because that means that they have no way to patch it with software yet. so play all the games you can while you can. Not to discourage you, or anything. Just remember to keep tuned into for news about software updates, because if one happens you can always uninstall the modchip until a later time.

    safe

It is safer to update with the WII Dashboard by going into your wii options and it is on page 3 I believe. Just to be safe because you may download or backup a pal game and it could be innapropriatly labeled when really it is J or NTSC, just be safe when updating and do it from the WII Dashboard

    ha

ha, no problem. There arnt any stupid or noob questions I believe because everyone has questions and everyone has to start their knowledge some where, I hate rude people who just take the time to complain about you re asking a question. Yea its good to search for an answer some times, but some times you are being to specific and you want to find out that answer. I know it happens to me all the time.

needless to say, the Wii dashboard (Taken from Xbox dashboard) sorry, is what you see when you first turn it on. Like with the channels on it. Then you click the circle in the bottom left corner. I think it is like Setup Menu or something. There you will find sound settings, Connect24 or whatever, and video and so on. Inside there, there are 3 pages. You click number 3 or number 2 and there is a update button. Thats how you update with the system. You have to have a fast internet connection such as DSL, Not dial up (56K) if you have 56K, and are worried about the updates, you might want to go buy a copy of Pokemon for WII or whatever is a recent game, and update it with a REAL copy not a backup.

    yea

yea check here always before you update, and you shouldnt have to update unless a game is asking you too, you can check here in such a case, it is better to ask first. maybe someone here can dig up some info on why it is asking you to update, and or if there are any brickings happening due to new nintendo updates. If Nintendo is anything like "Sony" With updates, you will see one every other month or couple of months. They usually send updates when a big wave of games are coming out, such as "Halo 3 for xbox" for an example, so they did it with pokemon because they know lots of kids are going to want it.
