    Exclamation Most Awesome Brawl Cheat!!!

EDIT: I noticed this post was pretty outdated so I edited it to put up the newest version of the file replacement code and also put in a mini-tutorial.

EDIT 2: I added in an even newer file replacement code that allows you to replace character sound effects.

EDIT 3: The v4.0 file replacement code has some bugs so I put the v3.5.1 code back in.

Best hack ever! It allows you to modify textures for characters! Ever wanted to play as Shadow (texture hack for Sonic)? Dr. Mario (Lucas)? Mewtwo (Lucario)? Roy (Ike)? Ridley (Charizard)? Master Chief (Samus)?

    Even Geno!!! (That's Toon Link)

EDIT 2: Here's the cheat you need, probably one of the most powerful cheats ever made for a Wii game:

It is now capable of replacing character textures, stage textures, effect textures, final smash textures, character selection portraits, stage selection portraits, battle portraits, various other menu textures, movesets, music, song title files, and sound effects.

How do you add textures from websites into your game you ask? First, just go to these sites to find some cool textures to download (there's other texture hacking teams but these are the most renowned):

    http://stacksmash.cultnet.net/
    http://elitesmashhackers.wordpress.com/
    http://www.kittycorp.xtreemhost.com/

For character textures you put them on your Wii SD card in the directory private\wii\app\RSBE\pf\fighter in a folder for that character. Below is a list that shows the folder name for each character:

    Captain Falcon: captain

*Thanks to Falco400/SMK for the list*

Each texture has to be renamed to the format fit[name of character][costume #].pcs (or pac)

For instance, to get Kirby's blue costume to be replaced you'd have to title the texture fitkirby03.pcs.

Below is a list of every character's costume colours and their corresponding costume #s.

Lastly, make a GCT with the file replacement code at the top of this post and put the SD with the textures in your Wii. Load Brawl through Gecko OS (or Ocarina) and you'll be playing with Fierce Deity Link in no time!

This guide isn't too detailed and if you're still not getting it go to the link below for a good tutorial. Also, the forum below has tutorials for CSP's (allows you to change the costume portraits for characters so you know what texture hack you're selecting), stage hacks, moveset hacks, and music hacks, and many other types of hacks if you're interested in those too!

    http://kittycorp.freecp.net/index.php?topic=5.0

Below is the noob guide which will teach you how to make your own textures for Brawl!!!

    http://kittycorp.freecp.net/index.php?topic=4.0

Lastly, below is a texture starter pack for those who want a sample of what can be done to make the Brawl experience even more customized! The best thing about the pack is you unzip it to the proper directory and it's ready! (WARNING: It's a big download: around 200 MB)

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W07WW05K

P.S. I will have a link up in the next year with all of my texture hacks on it. It will have CSP's and textures for every character as well as textures for every stage, some effect hacks, menu hacks, and many music hacks (I already have 40 songs changed).

EDIT 2: Info On Replacing Character Sound Effects (said by Phantom Wings)

I initially planned on having it allow you to replace specific parts of the sound file, but that led to some difficulties, so you can only replace sound effects by replacing the whole sound file. Currently there's only the Japanese sound file that you can use, but once Kryal allows BrawlBox to edit the sound file (or can it already?) you'll be able to add custom sound effects to your custom characters.

I should note that this is a Beta because it's still incomplete. Apparently, a few characters have a different format for their sound files, these characters will freeze if any sound from their file is played while using the code.

    Bowser
    Samus/Zero Suit Samus
    Zelda/Sheik
    IceClimbers

(funny that each of those are the ones that require the .pac file for textures/models.)

Anyways, it's likely you'll encounter some bugs aside from those, but a quick test hasn't revealed anything so far.

This is really interesting! I've never heard of it until now...

I might have to look into this!

Though if there's a music hack, and now a texture hack...
Then wouldn't the next step be a sound effect hack??

It would add a lot of polish to the experience!
Shadow would sound like shadow, and not sonic eventually...
Stuff like that... and of course tons of gag sounds or voice messages...

    - Anyhow very cool...

I've never used Gecko for anything before,
I never saw much use in cheats until this showed up.

Do I need to play brawl threw my usb drive to use the hack?
All I know so far is that you put the texture files on an sd card...
    THANK YOU Tealc & sociallyantisocial!!

I just edited the guide since character sound effects are now editable but the code is in beta so it will be buggy. I haven't tried doing it yet but I believe you need to get the file "DOUBUTSUGO_JP_BOY.BRSAR" from the tab "sound" from a Brawl.iso using WiiScubber and then unpack that file using this program (http://www.hcs64.com/files/brsar_unpack00.zip) and replace the songs you want to. Then I believe you need to open the original file with a program called BrawlBox (get it here: http://brawltools.googlecode.com/fil...ox%20v0.59.zip) which is fantastic for editing textures (compared to the old way at least (the old way was called ASH)) and replace the files you want.

To answer your second question, there's two ways of loading textures:

    1) Loading them using the SD card and putting the files in the proper directory. This way you need to load the game using either Ocarina or Gecko OS and you need to have the file replacement cheat active. This way is the quicker and more used method since transferring files to SD card takes seconds (though there's rumours when it comes to streaming music off the SD card that say it makes its life lower significantly).

    2) Loading the textures via USB or by burnt disc is the other method. This way involves you going into the .iso with WiiScrubber and replacing the default textures with your own (it takes a while). Then you have to either burn a disc or transfer the new .iso to USB. This way has the advantages of faster loading times since the file replacement code doesn't have to be used (which greatly slows loading times), and you only have to put the disk in/load the from the USB to have instant textures.

There actually already is a Megaman texture for Samus (Megaman X though) and an even better one for Ness (original Megaman).

Here's the download for the Ness version: (http://stacksmash.kontek.net/STUFFZ/...amanRevamp.rar)
