Ca Hi all. Newbie question please. How to get film onto SD card?

I've tried 4 programs (2 dedicated to Wii) to try to convert a TV program to MJPEG, and 1 program to convert to .MOV. Every effort to view the SD has been met with a unsupported format message.
    My firmware is 3.3U.
    I would welcome any suggestions.

    OK............
The Wii unless hacked is only capable of showing photographs
You need something like geexbox etc. available via the homebrew browser to watch anything else.
There is even an application for dvd playback but why you'd bother when a dvd player is so cheap - and the Wii laser assembly is so weak - I cannot figure out

OK I think you are missing the point.

First of all you can't just view movies with the homebrew channel - you need something like GeeXBoX <---highly recommended.

You download GeeXBoX and put it in your apps folder etc blahdeblahblah - I assume you know how to do that...

Then after loading GeeXBoX you navigate to your .avi, .rmvb, .almost anything file and you play it. Playback is a bit dodgy 'cause the wii can't really keep up with the decoding so image quality isn't great but there's hardly any lag.

It also supports USB and in my case - my 250GB external hard drive.

Edit: Ooooh two other posts just popped up as I was typing. How...coincidental?

I'm never one to argue with a Mod

I suppose it depends on what files the OP is trying to load on his SD card - .MOV files are not supported by the photochannel on the Wii......
only Quicktime with a maximum size of 848 x 480

Ahah........... try reducing your video output to 848 x 480 before putting them on the card

Thanks for helping. I was not really looking to play DVDs. I would like to play some TV progs from the SD card. I was following the manual trying to convert to MJPEG or MOV without success. Can you recommend a converter and format that would work without mods?
    Thanks.
