Thanks, I can appreciate what you're saying, but I move from country to country, so I just buy whatever region is available in that country.
Currently I'm in Vietnam, an NTSC country, and my Wii is also NTSC.
I certainly haven't noticed any quality issues with the Pal games, but I wonder if that is perhaps because I'm just playing on a small TV. I'm thinking about upgrading to a big TV just for the Wii, and I want to know first whether my Pal collection will display any problems on a bigger screen.
Is the Pal DVD coded differently (ie: does the DVD itself specify the number of lines, interlaced or not, framerate etc..)? If so, even if the Wii converts to NTSC, there will be image degradation right? (as degradation always occurs when converting formats). However if being a "Pal" dvd is simply a tag like a region, then it shouldn't matter which region I buy, as long as I have a way of loading it?
Thanks again for your help on this. I appreciate your thoughts.

Your Wii is not converting the signal. It is outputting in NTSC so there is no difference in video quality. It's nothing like using a signal converter. The TV my Wii is connected to is 42" using a component cable and I've played plenty of both PAL and NTSC games.

Cool so what you're saying is that a "Pal" Dvd is exactly the same as an "NTSC" dvd? They are coded exactly the same, and the actual rendering and output of the game is determined entirely by the Wii, rather than by whether the DVD is NTSC or Pal?

That's kind of what I'm saying. It's region coded to tell your Wii what video signal to send out (which you know how to override) but otherwise the game data is the same.

Cool, makes sense, thanks! I got all in a tizzy because I went to buy a game recently and the guy told me it was Pal. Turns out he was talking out of his bum.
    Cheers
