Can anyone give any ideas about what a New Sealed Launch Wii would go for?
A friend of mine has three that he bought on launch day and never opened. I did some googling, but all the results are for the new wii from walmart ($90)- which obviously won't be backup disc/boot2 ready.
Again....bought in 06 - never opened - has 3 of them. I told him to save one and sell it when he is 80, mod one of them, and sell the third now.
Thoughts on price if he sold one now?
wouldn't be worth no more than one selling today, because it can play backups doesn't mean anything now-a-days, with usb loading, and the boot2 bootmii would be a nice thing, but if you don't cowboy with your wii, then that is moot also... I have one also...
So basically he wasted his time and money by saving and not opening them for 6 years?
to me yeah, but there will be some clown that would come along and pay his price because "it's special", a fool and his money are soon parted...
if he keeps them like that for another 94 years his gran kids might have something on their hands
I might be wrong on this, but I'm sure I read somewhere that this gen of games consoles were the first to be affected by the regulations governing leaded solder. As they use lead free solder, the Wii, 360 and PS3 will eventually cease to function if left sealed for ten or fifteen years or so, wheras the PS2 and older could potentially last indefinitely.
I'm not 100% sure if that's the way it works, but your friend might want to google up on the issue.
wow, i definitely did not think of that... interesting. I should just mod them all for him and tell him to sell them touting the fact that they are boot2 compatible wii's.
I have a box of unopened Disney VHS tapes in my attic. There's just little market for them @ this point. Lets be honest & say that the Wii is analogous to VHS tapes at this point.... or soon will be. My guess is the market (craigslist) will be flooded with wiis, many of them older in the coming months.

Is it even legal to sell a modded wii? (assuming there is no copyrighted software included) If so, I can't imagine the service would warrant a tremendous premium because you guys have made it so fool proof with all the awesome guides.
