softmod and wii shop

my friend ask me to soft mod his red wii hes got points to spend at the wii shop now if i mod the wii can he still use the shop to get stuff with or best to use the points first then mod the wii any help would be appreciated .

the points will still be valid and useable

and netflix will work too, as well as all of the other wii channels.

You can use the points after you mod it.
