    Question Wii No Video (Not Modded)

    A friend may sell me a broken wii. He says it turns on and there is sound. He also that he can power it on with the remote. He said he hasn't tried anything to fix it and it hasn't been modded. Can I assume that this is an issue with the AV cables or is it something more serious?

    It may work with component cables, but it could be a hardware issue too.

    The a/v encoder on the motherboard may be faulty.
    Similar issue to your here-->http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...wer-serge.html

    This Wii has sound though, can it still be an A/V encoder?

    Yes, a/v stands for "audio/video". Either part of the encoder can become faulty. But like I mentioned earlier, component cables may still work.
