Make sure DVD support is enabled in the settings. There was a update for Wiimc yesterday, might help. It will actually take a while for WiiMC to mount the DVD and start playing it. I was testing this today with a wii I have for sale. I thought it froze but ended up finally playing.

I then tried with MPlayer-CE, and it loaded faster, but still took long to load.

This is because the Wii isn't meant to play original DVDs.

EDIT - I thought we already established it should be able to play DVDs, his drive date was 7/14/2008?

Yeah I thought so too but was just asking to see if maybe syscheck reported it wrong (since the wii was purchased late 2009, right around the time drives stopped reading DVDs).

I updated WiiMC and it still says DVD not supported, and I tried MPlayer CE and when I select "Play DVD" it says "Mounting DVD, Please Wait..." for a few seconds and then it returns to the previous screen

What did the drive chip database say when you put your serial # into it?

Usb loading is better than discs anyway. Get a external hard drive and rip your games and movies to it.

I have been USB loading and I do like it more then DVDs, it takes up less space, but WiiMC won't detect a microSD card that I put in SD reader/writer, is this normal? it works fine with a flash drive, but I was just wondering

    Hi,

I was directed here by someone trying to help me on the wiimc thread.

We apparently have the exact same machine - drive date, chip set, everything. Apparently I'm in the same boat. Pretty much went through all of this to play DVDs so the kids could be "self contained" with a limited amount of equipment at their disposal. This is pretty disappointing after putting all this work into this.

If I may ask - what was the "smoking gun" about the chip set that finally gave it away that this machine won't play DVDs?

    Thanks.

    Lara
