USB HDD not detected in USB loaders, but is for media?

Hello, I've been browsing these forums for the past two weeks, learning a lot of the new stuff I could do to my Wii.
Finally, after doing extensive research on google and all, I figured I'd ask my question.
I softmodded my 4.3u Wii with Mauifrog's Softmod Any Wii guide and so far everything works good. I found a Maxtor One Touch 160GB external USB HDD in my garage, still factory sealed, and I was pretty stoked. It is detected by WiiMC and can play Movies and Music; I watched a few episodes of south park from it. The only problem is, CFG loader and WiiFlow do not detect it at all! I don't know where to begin and I am prepared to run and post a system check if necessary and appreciate any help you guys may offer. Thanks in advance

TL;DR wii 4.3u softmodded detected and working in WiiMC but not in USB loaders, Maxtor One Touch 160GB

I'm guessing your HDD is formatted as FAT32?

Try using the latest version of USB Loader GX.

Okay, to update a few things:

    I am actually running 4.1U
I formatted my Wii, and followed Maui's guide again, completely clean install.
I formatted my USB HDD again using the FAT32 method on the forums, and followed another guide to use Wii Backup Manager to convert ISO wii games to WBFS onto my USB HDD.
I have know i have 10 WBFS games on my USB HDD now, the latest USB Loader GX on Homebrew channel, and for some reason it still is not working! it said "Searching for HDD: 11 seconds left" or whatever and stayed there for a while, then "...: -87 seconds left" before it says: "Error ! USB Device not detected." I click OK and it takes me to the Wii Menu.
I noticed when i clicked on the Homebrew browser again, it stayed at a black screen and would not load until I pressed the power button on my USB HDD to turn it off; Kinda weird.
The only folder I have in the root of my USB HDD is one I was told to make in the guide called WBFS (W:\WBFS\) with all the converted games in there (W:\WBFS\(game name & ID)\)
Do I need any other folders/files in there?
Any help would be wonderful for this is the third time I have formatted and tried a clean install before finally posting.
Also, thanks for the quick reply, sorry I didnt get back quicker!

Well, so far you've done everything correctly. With the games, I name them with just their ID. So they would look like "gameID.wbfs". So a file with just the game ID as it's name.

Let me know if that works.

Have you set the HDD as primary and active? and was it a full format or a quick format?

Did I come off like a jerk?? Read more here

    HDD ISSUE Urgent

Alright heres the deal. I have a iomega Screenplay MX2 hdd which i formatted and removed all the partitions. I have formated it from NTSF to Fat32. Now the issue was i couldnt get the dang thing to detect at all, well i plugged the usb cable in to the wii while it was on and then plugged the power to the hdd in and it detected it instantly on wii Brew Channel. Yet when i go to CFG usb Loader i get the error Hdd not detected or non responsive you know the whole retry thing even though homebrew is running from the Hdd. So how do i get the cfg loader to detect hdd it says and i qoute. make sure its plugged into Port 0 which is the first usb slot near the edge which it is plugged into, i tryed everything , retarting etc and nothing works. It seems it doesnt have to be all in wtfs becuase i have a folder called WTFS which has the wtfs game files in it and worked the same off the SD Card. I have copied all the SD files to the Hdd including but not limited to the boot.elf. and all the other files used to bring homebrew channel onto the wii plus all the cfg loader files, i mean everything. Everything that made the cfg loader work fine on the sd card was copied to hdd. Now when i do load up the cfg loader and gives me info , it says base cfg loader sd/cfg loader even though its on the Hdd drive where shouldnt it say usb hdd? i need help asap please comment . its not like its not detecting it all becuase homebrew picks up the hdd when u hit 1 on the wii remote and switch to usb hdd. please help. thank you. BTW it was modded via modmii if that helps and yes i have installed ios249 and the games work fine via sd card.

    Hi porter,

Firstly, I would like to inform you that this is someone else's thread - it's much better to start your own thread as the mods on this site don't really approve of "hijacking" threads. But don't worry, I see that you are a new member so you are not familiar with all the rules

As for your problem, many people have had similar problems with their HDDs not picking up automatically in the USB loader. Try searching for your problem and I am sure you will find a solution.

I would recommend that you try to update your USB loader as this may solve the problem. I do not think that your softmod is out of date but it would be great if you could post a syscheck.

First i would like to apologize to the user whom i highjacked thier thread. I am new to using forums and only used them a few times in my life when things seem desperate.

Now on to business so i can delete the thread, What upload do i use? i mean neogamma states no usable partition found or something like that. USB Loader GX does the whole usb device not responding please wait blah blah blah and then retry 1...2...3.. etc. Also i have tried wii flow which give me the loading screen then freezes. i have done the cfg loader which gives the retry screen and then it times out states rev-1 error or something like that. Listen what loader do u think will work? i mean like i said homebrew detects usb but not loader. also i did try installing ios222 etc using the installer ( 9681-cIOS222rev5_installer ) and what happens is it installs for a while and then screen goes blank wii mote turns off and flashes and i have to manually hold the power to restart it. so i dont know what to do guys!

please help me solve this issue so i may close the thread or at least delete my comments from this thread.

    Thanks everyone!

Don't worry about the thread, I was just giving you a heads up mate

What wad installer did you use?

Use Multi mod manager - it's my favourite. Click on load another IOS and choose 249. Then click install wad and install your cIOS.

I use USB Loader GX 2.3 (latest version) with my WD Elements SE 1 TB and it works fine.

I don't think your problem is your loaders, it's you HDD. Try using another HDD (if there is a spare one) or just a USB or something...
