Trying to get back to a virgin wii and having trouble

so first off i should say that i'm not the one who hacked my friend's wii. it was done by someone way more knowledgeable than me about this kind of stuff. here's what i got. i've done some research online and most of what i've read says i need to install a wad file and some homebrew apps to fix the issue. here's the link that i've been referencing Make your Wii a virgin. the version i have on my wii right now is 4.3U. i finally found the systemmenu-v289.wad file and downloaded it. thing is there isn't a homebrew channel on his wii. on his sd card there is a homebrew browser folder so i assume it's on there. i tried getting into his sd card and it gives me a system4 error and says the files are corrupted. everything works on the wii except playing game discs. also the apps that the link says i need are on the sd card already. i'm kinda stuck. any help would be greatly appreciated.

From reading your post, I got the impression you are not exactly an expert when it comes to wii hacking (my apologies if you are). Viriginizing is an advanced and dangerous procedure. It is very much possible to brick your wii. Instead of virginizing it, I recommend you re-softmod it, using the softmod any wii guide. This is a far safer and easier method and will likely fix any problems. You can always virginize after that, should it be nessecary.

after 115 views finally a beacon of hope. you are correct in thinking i don't have much experience with this stuff. i have zero actually. i am knowledgeable in computers and software so i thought that would help in trying to resolve this problem. from the link i posted on my first entry it didn't seem to be all that crazy to do. granted with anything like this there's always going to be the unknown you have to worry about. i don't think my friend has a problem with re-softmoding it as long as i can get it back to being able to play games on it. will that resolve the sd card issue? i guess i'm going to give it a shot and see what happens. thanks for taking the time to offer some advice.

also something i forgot to ask. i'm pretty sure my wii is hardmodded. i can't say for sure but it took my buddy a really long time to do whatever he did to it. is there a way of finding out if it's hardmodded or soft? does it even matter? the reason i'm asking is because on the any wii guide page it says it can fix hardmodded, softmodded, etc. it then says if its softmodded you don't have to delete anything... just wondering why they pointed it out. the answer may very well be in the guide and i haven't seen it yet. if so sorry for wasting your time with this post.

I believe you can use SDHC as soon as you install the HBC and such, but normal SD is still recommended. The softmod any wii guide will work on any wii, so no need to delete anything unless the guide says so.

i've been adding posts on the any wii guide and so far there hasn't been much resolution. i wrote down the mac address and formatted my sd card. downloaded hackmii from letterbomb with the correct region selected. it was a winrar file so i extracted it to the same folder i was currently in. dragged and droppped that to the sd card and when i put it in the wii it doesn't show anything on the card. i've tried half a dozen ways to add the file to the card and nothing has worked. it has about 15 folders in it and at the very end it's just ".000 file". added just that file and nothing. i don't really now where to go from here. i could use another hackmii installer but i don't see why i would have to or if it would even work. you have any ideas?
