Preparing my old softmodded Wii for Skyward Sword

(If this were to be the wrong forum, please move so, I beg your pardon)

Hi, I know perhaps it may be rude to come out of nowhere to ask such a silly question, but I've been surfing the web and haven't been able to gather a correct answer to my problem, here it is:

I have an old softmodded Wii (I think it's 3.4) which I want to update for Skyward Sword, i'm an old gamer and I believe this will be the last game I might get for my Wii, so I don't mind updating and losing my hacks.
The thing is, I don't know if updating will damage my Wii or not. Last time I used it was about a year ago, I used to have Homebrew Channel installed for a while but deleted it and now only have a couple of Virtual Console and WiiWare WADs installed.

tl;dr So, if I were to update from 3.4 all the way to 4.3, what will happen? Like I said, I no longer have HBC, just a couple of VC and WW WADs.

    Lots of thanks in advance.

It wouldn't hurt you to remod your wii using the Softmod ANY Wii guide (there is a link in my sig). After doing that you should be able to play Zelda with no issues. Or you could just take the disc update, but honestly I have never recommended to anyone to do that. The ANY Wii guide safe? - Definitely. Updating from disc safe? - Not so sure, tbh. I would say post a syscheck, but since you already deleted your HBC that would be pointless.

But if I am correct, the Softmod ANY Wii Guide installs HBC and some other things to my Wii right? I don't really want any more hacks on my Wii.

I mean, I just have a couple of game WADs, what could happen if I were to update? Would they no longer work, or what? That is my concern. But still, if I were to not gather another option to my problem I suppose I will use the guide.

Game Wads? You will need to update you mod to play newer games.. End of...
Thats the little maintenance you have to do with a softmod.

Yes updating via Nintedo will remove you backup playing capabilities .

I supposed that would happen, the loss of the ability to play backups, but will a Nintendo update brick or damage my Wii in any way? I don't mind not being able to use backups, I just wanna play SS, after that i'll probably get rid of my Wii.

    So, update, y/n?

A guide for that game is here.. ----> http://www.wiihacks.com/wii-games/95...ard-sword.html

If that is the only game you want to play then install the correct cIOS and away you go.

Edit - Just re read your thread and didn't realize you had deleted HBC...
If you are thinking of selling the wii then a Nintendo update will not remove the mod throughly. There is a guide on removing a softmod but again you will never get rid of all traces but the guide will be more thorough at removing it than a Nintendo update.

Seriously though i'd consider re doing the mod and selling the wii on here afterwards... If its a boot2 wii as well you will get extra dollar for it...

(I feel a little dumb going over the same over and over again, I beg your pardon.)

Yeah, I had checked that guide already, I have the cIOS already downloaded so I would just need to install them. But my question lingers, can't I just simply update via Nintendo? Like I said, I don't mind losing my softmod.

Thats what I am saying. If you do that Mod Guide it will install all the latest correct cIOS/IOS. You will then have a up to date modded wii which you can either sell on or keep...

9 out of 10 a Nintendo update will stub your cIOS, update your game IOS' and update your firmware if there is a newer one.

But mixing Nintendo updates with Mods then there could be a small chance that you can brick..

Well, I don't have any plans to sell the Wii, or maybe i'd have to consider. I know this may sound naive but I guess i'll take my chances and go with the update. Truth be told I don't want to get deeper into hacking my Wii, and that guide says I have to use Neogamma right? Like I said, I don't want to go deeper into that. I know it may be the better option, but right now I just want to get into playing SS.

But seriously, thanks a lot guys, you've helped me out. I'll go with the update and proceed to report my luck. Any other things I should be wary about?
