Question Wii is no longer reading backups

I've had a modded wii for a good two years or so, I paid some guy in the local area to mod it for me (he had an ad in the paper) and I never thought to ask whether it was a softmod or a hard mod. Up until about 2 months ago it was working perfectly, but now it just won't read backup discs. It has no trouble reading shop-bought wii discs. If I try to launch a backup through neogamma it gives me an error along the lines of "you need a cios". So has my cios just uninstalled itself or something?! I can still run SD apps through HBC and whatnot, but I'm really confused. I followed GAF's Wii Homebrew guide on wikidot, but I can't install IOS236 because apparently my wii's ios is not vulnerable or something. I'm sorry if this problem is easily resolved on the forum, I did have a quick skim but didn't find anything helpful. If it helps I'm running 3.2E.

Sounds like something happened to your cIOS in slot 249 (the default cIOS neogamma loads from). Ordinarily when we hear something like this it is the result of an update, however since you are still on 3.2 that doesn't appear to be the case. It would be a good idea for you to follow the Softmod ANY Wii guide, link is in my signature below. If for some reason you encounter the "no vulnerable ios" error when following that guide, take a look at THIS.

I'm only getting as far as having to install IOS58 and IOS61 from MMM however from the WAD manager pressing 1 will either do nothing or freeze MMM, and if I try to mount the SD slot it has a mounting error. I formatted and placed the required files and folders onto the SD but still making no headway.

Syscheck runs fine until it fails to get the TMD size for IOS56

It freezes when I attempt to, although it also says that I need the IOS files in the SD card root, and I don't have IOS36 in the root (assuming that's the ios it wants?) where would I go about getting the required IOS? And BluPhant it's a 2gb Sandisk.

Try it again but from Normal Mode instead of Express Mode. When prompted load from Nintendo Servers.

I apologise for the delayed reply but I have made some progress (I am still having difficulties however). I have successfully softmodded the wii using the Softmod ANY Wii guide on this website, however my wii refuses to load backup Wii or Gamecube discs. If loaded through the disc channel it either gives me a black screen telling me to eject the disc and turn off the console, or gives me the standard disc read error. If I load it through Neogamma the drive hums for a while with backup gamecube games and gives me a no drive connected? error, backup wii games will make the drive hum and attempt to read the disc but will consistently give me bad burn errors. I am confident that it is not the result of a bad burn as these games were all working fine (I have tried 10 or so backups) as backups a couple months ago (before the console began having reading problems). Strangely I can not get the only actual, shop bought wii game I own to read, but any actual, shop bought gamecube discs read absolutely fine. This may sound really confusing, but help?
    Edit: Bump
