OK, so I have a custom case on my Wii. I don't want to have to disassemble two Wii's, if I can help it. Do I need to do more than just switch the DVD drive units, or can I just swap them and save myself time?

Disassembling more than I need to. I had to take apart the entire Wii to put on the custom case, versus just swapping the drives, which takes only a couple minutes.

That's the disassembly guide. It gets you to the point where you remove and replace the DVD drive. Can I just stop there, and swap the DVD drives in my two Wii's so that my white one can play backup discs, or is there more to it to do a swap like that. I'm asking so I don't have to fully disassemble the two systems any further. My original plan was to swap the cases, but I think it may be easier to swap the internals.

Edit: OK, I'm a little more awake. Let's try this: I have two Wii's. I want to swap the DVD drives. Can I just swap the drives themselves, or do I need to swap more of the internals to make them work? One is a launch Wii, and the other is a D3-2. The PCB's are the same.

Trust me, I know. But that's what my uncle wanted for his Wii. Personally, I'm going to USB HDD my Wii, so I didn't care which drive I got, so I gave him the option for his kids, and that's what he chose. What can ya do? Thanks for making my life easier. Almost fully disassembled one of them before I realized I might not need to. Hahaha.
