Question: Do I have to softmod or patch before playing downloaded ISOs?

    Hi, all,

I bought a USA wii with 3.3U menu, couple of days ago.

I also downloaded NTSC-USA wii games from RapidShare/MU site.

In order to play those games, which things I need to do then?

    • Do I have to patch those downloaded NTSC-USA ISOs?
    • Do I have to install Homebrew first?
    • Do I have to switch back to 3.2 menu too?

which is essential? Thanks a lot, guys!

Get homebrew, then get the gamma backup loader. Downgrade to 3.2, then burn and play games.

go here its got all u need to do Homebrew (removed)
    What you need :
    ***************
    1. Nintendo Wii with wii controller and nunchuck.
    2. Legends of Zelda Original Game
    3. SD Memory Card (any size)
    4. Wii_Loader.rar (part of the zip)
    5. Homebrew Installer (part of the zip)
    6. Backup-Creator (part of the zip)
    7. IMGBurn or Nero

    Brief:
    ******
Everything that you need is contained in this Zip - put the whole lot onto an SD card and we can move on from there. The only part you need on your PC is this file (Howto.txt)
and the foldr entitled For-PC - the rest goes onto the SD card and into the wii.
Most games will work from the Channel loader , but if they dont , go to the Homebrew channel and then to ISO loader - its a different loader with more comaptibility

Stage 1 : Install homebrew Channel
    **********************************
    1. Start up the wii with legends of Zelda and save a game.
    2. Put the Homebrew installer onto an SD Card by unzipping it to the root
    3. Quit the game and go to Wii Menu - Wii OPtions - Data Management - Save Data - Wii and delete the Zelda Saved File.
    4. Click the SD card tab at the top and select the EUR file (for Europe) or US (for US) and when asked to copy to the wii system memory select Yes
    5. Go back to the zelda game and start it - and select the saved game Twilight Hack.
    6. Talk to the man by pressing A - and wait for an install screen
    7. Click Accept (1 button) to all of the menus
    8. Upon returning to the Wii menu , you will have Homebrew Installed (may need a hard reboot at this stage)

    Stage one complete !

Info : The homebrew channel includes a few games like Tetris, Doom , Quake and a few more and has a Homebrew browser for anyone who wants more homebrew applications.
I have also recently included the Wii MPLayer that lets you listen to streaming audio with your wii ... not classy looking but it works well. mplayerwii.conf is where you find the stations.

Stage 2 : Install the rest
    **************************
    1. Go to the homebrew channel
    2. Go to WAD Manager and load it - then press A to continue and select the file Cios_fix then press + on the wii remote.
3: Install the new backuploader channel.wad to create a channel on your wii menu.
    4. Install the Safe 3.3u Update from the wad manager by selecting it in homebrew channel - make sure no usb items or controllers are in the wii . (Thanks tona/Muzer)
    5. Return to the Homebrew Menu and install the DVDx using advanced install with ios249 (pressing the right button changes the iso's when in advanced mode - darktehnub)
    6. To uninstall any of the above select the file and select minus on the contoller .
( a stage was removed to avoid pirated materials in the zip : Opera browser has now been removed)
    Stage 2 complete !

Stage 3 : Get a Game ready and try
    **********************************
    1. Patch a game - download an ISO , run the WiiBackupPatcher.exe that is in the For-PC folder
    2. Located the ISO and select and wait for it to convert into the same folder. Patched size should be 4,185,870 if its an original iso.
    3. Burn the patched game with IMG-Burn at a slow speed (2.4 x) .Nero should also work.
    4. Start your wii , go to homebrew channel (or the Backup Loader channel if you installed it) , select Wii Loader , and when asked to insert the game , insert it.
    5. Play and have fun

Stage 4 : (Optional) Backup a game from the wii
    ************************************************
    1. Start up the wii and go to the homebrew channel
    2. Go to the WAD manager and install IOS5 and restart
    3. Go to to Homebrew channel once again and select Wii DVD Dumper (This is by Waninkoko v1.2)
    4. Select Wifi Network Backup
    5. Select the game type - usually Wii Single Layer
    6. On your PC/Laptop , open Firefox (IE may give errors -10056) and type in the link the Wii gives you
    7. Wait 2-4 hours and you have a ISO for yourself (dependant on your wifi speeds)

    Updating from the old CIOS36_rev5-64-v1042.wad
    **********************************************
If you have the older CIOS36_rev5-64-v1042.wad and some games dont work what you can do is the following :
Install the CIOS_fix from this zip and replace the boot.dol in the ISO loader folder of your SD card. That should work ok.
    If you still have problems,
    1. Uninstall Cios_fix
    2. Uninstall CIOS36_rev5-64-v1042.wad
    3. Uninstall DVDx
    4. Reinstall Cios_fix
    5. Re-install DVDx in advanced mode ios249
    6. Copy the boot.dol file from the ISO loader folder to your Iso Loader folder on the SD card

    ##############################
    # Some INfo on the cIOS files.#
    ##############################
These are basically system files that go alongside the original system files but do not edit them. Normal system operations don't use this IOS and won't even notice it is there.
The C in Cios stands for Custom and each different one is made in such a way that they wont overwrite each other but will compliment each other.
Installing two or more of these is usually ok and wont cause any issues (usually - but no guarantees for ones i havent tested).
I have tested these two and there are no issues when both are installed at the same time.

Actually you can not use any size SD card. 2 gig is about the limit.
