External Hard Drive Issue with USB Loader GX and MPlayer CE

    Hi everybody!

First of all, sorry if this issue has been resolved before, but I tried searching and didn't find anything. Trying to find a solution by myself wasn't so successful either :P

Anyway, I have an external USB drive (Western Digital 500GB NTFS) which I've used with USB Loader GX and MPlayer CE for about a year without any problems, it booted games fine and I've always watched movies and shows on it.

But suddenly the Wii (Softmod 4.2) doesn't seem to recognize it anymore. I get the following errors:

MPlayer CE: No USB drive mounted

USB Loader GX: No WBFS or FAT/NTFS partition found, when I try to select or format the partition (the drive shows up on partition 1) I get an Exception (DSI) error.

I've tried reinstalling and updating cios but nothing seems to work. Any help would be very appreciated!
    Thanks!

Have you tried formatting the hdd to wbfs with wbfs manager?

Have you updated anything recently. Is the cable in the correct usb port. Have you tried a different cable. There are lots of options before you jump in GX loader 2.2 will read FAT32 format. No need for WBFS formatted partitions anymore.

No, I haven't formatted to wbfs, also if possible I don't want to change it to Fat32, I use that drive as a general Backup and have tons of files I don't want to lose.

But I haven't updated anything recently, the cable is fine because the drive still works on my computer without any issues and I've tried both USB ports.

I'm guessing it's an issue with the Wii then, maybe some cios? But which cios is used for usb drives?

So I've tried different loaders and it's always the same issue. Tried the IOSchecker but it tells me everything is fine.

I seriously have no idea what else to try, any ideas?

I'm thinking aloud here. You are running with NTFS format. do you boot from an SD card ? or are you running with loader, files direct from your hard drive. If you have not changed anything on your console. Maybe you have corrupted your loader management files. ( the stuff that loads from apps. Usb loader. Mplayer ce) or your SD card is not reading, Think about all the other stuff that works alongside the Wii, If your sure the console is OK

Well, Mplayer CE is loaded through the SD card from Homebrew Browser. I tried deleting the config files and everything but it's still not working. USB Loader GX is a channel, I tried without any SD card at all and it's still the same issue. As I said, I also tried other loaders, even reinstalled the channel, but still the same.

Thanks for all the effort, but seems like nothing is working.

You are not allowed to give up dude!! lol! You must be patient. read lots, I'm confused at how many people get it messed up. I have softmodded lots of PAL consoles ver 3.0 through 4.3 I only ever had one glitch, and managed to sort it, (Priloader semi brick) with the help of folks on this site. What guide did you use. and have you thought of posting a system check. to allow others to see how your console is set up.
The way i run is with a mauifrog setup updated to d2x cios. I use load neogamma 46 for discs. CFG forwarder, GX loader forwarder. Wiimc as a channel, BBC i player as a channel downloaded from Nintendo. I format to FAT32 with easeus partition manager, marking drive primary, Active. I load CFG xx GX loader. Mplayer CE. to the apps on root of HDD, I have a folder called wbfs ( the game files are in there) I rip files to hdd with CFG loader. (Backup originals by installing to HDD) Trust me it's strange what do people do to get it so wrong..
Maybe you should start over. good luck

    Thanks man, I'll keep trying

I don't remember which guide I used actually, it was a long time ago and I can't seem to find it again.

I did however do a Syscheck:

Okay so in my quest to fix this weird problem I've tried re-softmodding the Wii, hoping it'll just overwrite whatever is causing the problem.

    I now used this

    and this guide:

aaaand still nothing... I'd be SO thankful for any help, this is really frustrating.
