Homebrew Channel asks to update. Should I click yes?

This is a second hand wii and we just got it. and theres a homebrew channel already installed. I opened it and a message showed that theres a new update available and a long message about scam alert. When I click on no, theres no apps showing. I dont know if there really are no apps inside it or i just need to update.
    Should I update homebrew?

Probably best to update everything by following the "softmod any wii" guide(click "Useful links" spoiler in my signature)
Then your softmod will be right up to date again.

Uhh.. so is that a yes? Should I say yes to the message in homebrew channel that i should update it?

Also, do I need to insert an sd card when opening homebrew channel? Maybe thats the reason why im not seeing anything on the channel.

You can update homebrew channel if you like. But if you have an old softmod, its best to update it using the "homebrew channel already installed" option of the any wii guide mentioned (and also in my sig).

But to answer your question succinctly, updating HBC is fine.

Still, if you decide to softmod, then the softmod any wii guide is the way to go.

update HBC via the update you get. the Use the link in my signature to run a system check so we can see what you have installed and so we can guide you in the right direction.
