Official game disk + missing IOS

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes.
A while back my girlfriend bought a game "my body coach".
When I tried to start it through the official disk channel it prompted for an update but since my wii is softmodded I cancelled.
Next I tried running it through Neogamma which worked fine but I was a bit annoyed with the slow loading speeds and also a bit afraid that my GF would accidentally run it throug the official disk channel and do an update. (no problem anymore I have priloader now)

But comes the question!
After that, I don't know why but I tried to run the game through Gecko. Gecko clearly stated which IOS was needed to install (don't remember which).
I assumed it would just install the IOS from disk and I pressed A to confirm.
the IOS was installed and the game is running fine now thorugh the official disk channel.

Now I was wondering if this is a safe way to get missing IOS installed for official games on my Wii. For example I would like to buy Metroid 3 but I see it's using IOS28 which I don't have on my Wii. is it safe to just let Gecko take care of bussiness and install it from the official disk?

I have read the those guides but I was just curious what the risks are from updation through gecko. As long as I check my syscheck first to make sure the IOS is installed in a previously empty slot I thought it would be fine?

Here's what metroid prime needs:

Metroid 3 Prime Corruption.............IOS28-64-v1288...........System Menu 2.1

Does this mean I only need IOS28 when on system menu 2.1?
I am on menu 4.1.

I assume you have been reading Tealcs list?

That is telling you that you need ios 28 v 1288 or higher and that the disc has System Menu 2.1 on it. Games aren't reliant on SM...

Yes I have, so it's IOS28 no matter what. So would I be safe installing the IOS from disk though Gecko?
The IOS's that are downloaded from NUSD, aren't they the same anyway?

Yes, you casn download from NUSD(select pack as wad) first. Install via Wad manager

I know you guys are trying to help and I understand about getting the IOS through the NUSD but I still don't know about the Gecko thing and getting the IOS from the disk? Is there any good reason wgy I should not do this?
Please tell me if I'm asking a stupid question and why :) I'm just trying to understand stuff...

Is the IOS untoutched when you install it though this method or the NUSD method or is it somehow modified/patched?
