Accidently Updating Wii from Nintendo after Installing Patched System Menu

    Hi All,

I've installed the HomeBrew Channel with MauiFrog's excellent Softmodding Guide and I'm now at a point where I have the option to install some WADS which will install a Patched SM.

    The text warns:

Select the folder "System Menu 4.1" -press A
Never Uninstall IOS, or SM you will brick your wii
Never Uninstall IOS, or SM you will brick your wii

Press (1) to "Install all Wads" - Press A
3 wads should install without error
    "Press any button to continue"

Be sure all 3 wads install, very important
This installs a version patched SM, which I recommend. If this bothers you, don't do it.
Never Uninstall IOS, or SM you will brick your wii
Never Uninstall IOS, or SM you will brick your wii
WARNING: This is a version patched System Menu, running on a version patched cios60. NEVER replace cios60-v54321 with ios60-6174. Doing so will brick your wii if you update from Nintendo. Never update from Nintendo, don't MUCK up cios60-v54321. You have been warned.
Now......like a lot of you, my Wii is used by my Wife, my 4yr old, my 6yr old and my Teenage Daughter (who has been mysteriously incabable of listening to instructions ever since her 13th Birthday).

My concern of course is that SOMEONE is going to accept an update from Nintendo, like when you put the Micheal Jackon Dance game in and it runs off to get an update (is that the same thing as running a System Update manually?).

So before I proceed, please can you advise: A) Do I want a Patched SM? (what won't I get if I don't install it?) and B) If I install the Patched SM, will my Wii brick if anyone updates the Wii from Nintendo?

    Thanks in advance!

Some games do have system menu updates on them, if u r following the softmod any wii guide u want to do all the steps including installing the patched system menu, this along with priiloader will prevent all updates from nintendo. Don't worry about the game updates as when u have finished the guide u will have installed everything u need to be able to play these games.

Please ask any other questions about the guide in the thread of the guide u r following.
