everything a noob must know :)

hello im a new owner of wii and also i dont know anything about it all i know is that im enjoying playing it ok so far i enjoyed my wii sports game.now enough for the introduction and lets get to business. i wanted to know a lot more about my wii. first of all the information that i can give you now is that my wii is modded i guess and the vendor says its with D2D mod chip. the thing is i cant find any topic about this mod chip as well. im not sure what company made that but according to my research its made by wiikey. again im a noob but eager to learn more about my wii. so pls help me out you wii experts out there.

    My Wii:
    NTSC (US)
    D2D Wiikey v-2.0

    Now for my questions:

1.*can i run the system update using the internet with my mod chip which is D2D v.2? im not sure if its the correct name but ill give the link as well (D2D Wiikey V-2.0 Modchip For D2C, D2C2 And D2E Manufacturer, Buyer, Supplier, Importer, Exporter, Manufacturers, Buyers, Suppliers, Importers & Exporters - ECPlaza).

2.* can i play downloaded games meaning .iso on any region? ie. japanese games like naruto, and other pal games?

3.*can i update any game of any region like naruto (japanese game) that i download that requires me to update my wii. is it safe to make updates from other region knowing my console is US NTSC? or will it be a bad move and brick my console instead?

4.*if i cant update the game from other region does it mean that i cannot play it with my console?

5.*is it safe to engaged on any online games with my mod chip? or will it affect my wii?

6.*lastly i wanted to know if i got a good mod chip or whatever you call my D2D wiikey v.2?

7.*with my current mod chip is it possible to play all region games (downloaded iso)?

8.*with my current mod chip is it possible to play PAL and JAP region games (original games)?

these are my simple questions hope my format helps. if you do have any tips or if you pass by and wanted to help a poor lil gal like me then thank you all you need to do is identify what number you wanted to answer and post it or if youre shy you can PM me you're tips and secrets so i can play my WII without any fear of bricking it or destroying my lovely console.

cheers people just trying to enjoy my console

I've never seen that chip before. It looks like a WiiKey clone. I could be completely off, but I don't think that's a safe product to have. :X

In general, you really don't want to update past the 3.2 firmware for various reasons.

With that modchip, I'm guessing, sure? That's what they all do.

You gotta be careful though, you do not want to execute an NTSC-J (Japan) firmware update on your PAL console. You'll brick it.

Look above. You'll brick your stuff.

What you really want to do is head to the link in my signature. Get to the 3.2 firmware and get familiar with homebrew applications such as "Wad Manager" and "StarFall". These are must have applications for all Wii modders.

Wad Manager will allow you to install firmware updates ... without the unnecessary anti-piracy crap Nintendo puts into it. These are called IOS files and they're installed with the Wad Manager. The WM can also install Virtual Console and Wiiware titles to your dashboard. It's awesome.

StarFall is a master configuration utility. There's even a setting on there to BLOCK all firmware updates. Yeap, no more worrying about US or Japanese updates bricking your PAL console.

    See above.

Get on the 3.2 firmware, install StarFall to block updates, and install IOS files to make games work. It seems like alot, but the link in my signature is awesome.

Online gaming is safe with a modchip.

I'm sorry man, but this chip looks like a fake. I'd consider taking it out and going with a WiiKey 2.

I did a quick Google search only to pull up Chinese websites about the "D2D Wiikey". Not a good sign. : \

You can only try. I'm assuming yes, all regions will work ... but remember, you'll have to get to that 3.2 and use IOS files to make them run. It's not hard.

You can find your system firmware by going to your dashboard / startup channel menu >> Wii Button in corner >> Settings

It's listed there. It'll look like 3.4U or something.

Follow the guide in my signature. It really walks you through everything, even though you haven't used them before.

This is everything in a nutshell, do your best to follow along. If you don't understand something, do ask, but search the bold words. You're probably wondering why do you not want to update the Wii firmware? There are many many reasons to this. The 3.3 and 3.4 firmwares are so active against piracy that it restricts what people are trying to accomplish.

There's a software hole in the Zelda disc. By overflowing a name field, hackers were able to crack the system allowing for a "Homebrew Channel" to be installed. To access the software hole, you need to place a Twilight Hack file save onto your Wii.

The "Homebrew Channel" is a gateway to the SD card. It'll launch applications, placed onto the SD card, from the Homebrew Channel.

Wad Manager is an application placed onto the SD card, accessed via Homebrew Channel. It's called "Wad" because that's how the files are named. Like music files are named .MP3, Nintendo installation files are named .WAD. The Wad Manager will install .Wad files onto your machine.

A .Wad file is something like a Virtual Console or Wiiware title. A .Wad file can also be a part of an update that your system needs to run a game. These are often called IOS files. When Nintendo issues a firmware update package, a huge part of it is anti-piracy coding. Some of it is actually needed to play a game. IOS files are a part of that firmware that you need.

"StarFall" is another application on your SD card launched via Homebrew Channel. It's a master configuration application that even has an option to block disc updates.

Off topic, but here's a visual of the Wad Manager

Again, a "WAD" is a file that can be installed onto the Wii's dashboard / OS. It's called a "WAD" because the file to be installed has a file extension of ".wad". (Ex. SuperMario.wad)

    Generic disclaimer screen ...

After the disclaimer, load from the SD ...

.WAD from my PC, transferred them to SD card, and now they're almost ready for the Wii.

Depending on the size of the .WAD, some installs are a few seconds, others a few minutes

Back to the OS, and there's the .WAD I just installed ... "Pokemon Snap" (N64)

    and ready to play
