HELP! Does softmodding still work with a new D4 replacement DVD drive?

    Hi all,

The DVD drive in my softmodded Wii is not reading disks. I bought a replacement drive and it turned out to be the new D4 version.

Could anyone tell me if the softmod still works with the new D4 version or not? Am I better off just replacing the laser lens?

Out of curiousity, it is OK to swap the old logic board over to the new D4 drive?

    Thanks in advance.

You can still softmod and play your backups through a usb loader!

    Hi all,

I just found out that the new D4 drive is NOT able to read DVD-R discs at all due to a hardware limitation. So in my case, can I just replace the D4 logic board with the D2C logic board so I will be using the new mechanism with the old logic board? Or the other option is to just replace the lens.

    Cheers.

No, they are physically different sizes. Go USB instead.

    Thanks all,

I managed to fix the the drive by cleaning it. It had a bit of sticky label stuck inside the drive

I got the new drive and the board was physically different and it would not read DVD-R only originals How MS had not done it with the Xbox 360 drive?

    Cheers.

You obviously don't want to listen, so thread closed!
