    Lightbulb What region is Africa?

    Hey there!
After i got a wii and a modchip, started playing backups and so on, my friend got interrested in modding as well. His family owns a house in South Africa and he is downthere for the holidays, and he was thinking he'd buy a wii downthere, bring it with him back home and hopefully save some cash. But does anyone know what region the wiis being sold in South Africa is? We are both from Denmark in Europe, so what we are hoping for is a PAL Europe, but we have no idea - can anyone help us out with an answer?

And when we are at the region issue, what is the difference between PAL-Japan and PAL-Europe? Or more specific, is PAL-J as "dangerous" to use as NTSC-U, on a PAL-E console?

Head to the Wii's dashboard / channel menu (power it up), click the Wii Button, go to "settings". Look at the system's firmware version.

    If it ends in:
    J (ex 3.4J) - it's an NTSC Japan console
    P (ex 3.4P) - it's a PAL console
    U (ex 3.4U) - it's an NTSC US console

PAL and NTSC are the designations for the frequency of the TV. The US and Japan run on the same, while Europe doesn't.

There is no PAL-J. Nintendo wouldn't make a European market Nintendo for Japanese speaking people.

The biggest thing NOT to do is to update your PAL (European) console with an NTSC (North America / Japanese) game. The conflicting firmwares will crash your system. There are ways to block this, but we'll get into that when you're ready.

Gray, why are you posting this in a thread i started about what region Africa is? Post it as a new thread or find a more relevant one. You'll get more responses that way
