Trouble getting wii to read files on SD Card

I have tried multiple wii hack files, and I cannot get the wii to read any of them. I have reformatted multiple SD cards without any success. When I go to data management and then channels and then sd card, one of the blocks shows up as ???? and then i cannot read that file. Any suggestions?

I am attempting to put the homebrew channel on the wii. I want to be able to play emulators and play back up dvds...I think the only problem im having is the wii not reading the card correctly

Make sure you are using bannerbomb v2. dont go to data mgmt. just click the sd card icon on the home screen, and load the boot.dol. Are you following a guide from this site? If not, I recommend THIS ONE. It is really straight forward, and fast.

I am trying to use bannerbomb v.2. I just installed everything to my SD card, and it still shows up on the wii as ?

I am now using the guide that was posted, but I still can't get past the point that I was. The card just doesn't want to read it

I did go straight to the SD menu. I have tried multiple SD cards too. I am at a loss as to what to try. One of the cards is SDHC, so I know that one isn't supposed to work. The other is a kodak sd card that i formatted completely so it was empty

I'm kinda stuck, then. Let's go over some easy stuff, just to make sure. Remember, I'm trying to help here, not insult your brains
    1-Downloaded the hack pack(s)
2-Extracted them to the root of the sd card(which is FAT32 formatted)
3-Click the sd icon on the homescreen
If, at that point, it doesn't prompt to load the boot.dol, I would suspect that the sd card is not compatible with the wii.
What files are on the root of the card? Is boot.dol on the root? and boot.elf in the hackmii folder in the apps?
