Wii randomly refuses to boot when in Standby mode.

My 4.2u wii seems to have issues booting when in Standby mode. On a test basis of turning it off and on over and over, it seems to be about a 50% failure rate. No idea what could be causing this, it's certainly not overheating as I not only have a usb base fan, but it's also modded to always have power to the fan even in standby mode. Besides that, simply turning on standby mode shouldn't instantly cause problems!

I have both priiloader and bootmii, both latest versions. My Wii is also of the oldest model, as I camped out for the damn thing. This isn't a new problem, just one I've been sitting on and avoiding fixing over the years.

Yea, I could always avoid it by just completely powering it down, but I would really like to know what is wrong. Bootmii will always boot regardless of standby or not, so it couldn't be a hardware issue, could it? Every now and then my virtual console games exit out into a black screen, I get the feeling these issues are related. Google has come up blank for my issue and I always find very knowledgeable folks here.

Try without the USB fan, i heard they may cause more errors than they fix. I heard that they trap the hot air inside the wii, instead of actually getting rid of it.

I haven't been using the usb fan since it hasn't made any difference in this problem. It shouldn't be a heating issue if it immediately has problems the minute I turn on standby. Maybe hours of being on standby might cause problems (which even still, my console is modded to keep the internal fan on even on standby). Really perplexed about this one. Is there any specific IOS that could be the culprit?

Have you thought of turning of the WiiConnect 24? That may be your problem. I've heard of that causing problems.

But it boots fine with standby turned off and wiiconnect24 enabled. So what you're saying is that I'm not the only one having trouble with wiiconnect24? The whole reason I modded the fan was so I could keep wiiconnect24 since I liked some of the little things it did.

I thought that with WiiConnect 24 turned on, the wii will only go into standby when turning it off.

You can enable Wiiconnect24, but also turn off standby mode. It's what I've been doing, but it also means it doesn't go online to look for things until you turn it on again. I'd really like to fix that standby mode for this reason.
