Wii 4.2U not playing games from DVD

So I already soft modded the wii and I am able to go into the homebrew channel install homebrews with no problem Im using Wiiflow and I can load many games from usb, I havent had any issues with that the only problem with my wii Im having is I cannot load games from dvd's which is not very good.

After doing some research I think that my wii has the drive that wont let you play them, the reason why I want to be able to play from dvd is becuase I want to play gamecube backups which I have done research on aswell and apparently you cant play them from usb backups.

So basically my question is what can I do to get the dvd drive to either work, whether its a software issue or could I find another option such as getting a modchip or an external dvd drive or something. ANY advise would be greatly appreciated in helping me with this I will be online pretty much all day and will provide any information needed if you are willing to help.

Also I have been unable to load wii and gamecube games from dvd's no matter which ones I try I have Phillips DVD-R and ive used IMGBURN which ive been told about on the net I have also tried verbatim which i have heard is great. So any help is appreciated guys! Im pretty stuck!

I hardmodded mine and still unable to get my backups to work either!!! I even bought the Indiana Jones game to softmod my 4.3u wii aND i CAN'T GET THAT TO WORK EITHER. I know in your case if you have it connected to net it will update your wii to 4.3 and kill your mod.

Both of you must have D3-2 or D4 drive chips. A hardmod won't fix the fact that your only option is USB. USB is way better anyway, and you can just use your retail copies of GC games. Just keep them in the box when not playing and you will be fine.

Ok so let me understand this...I wasted money on the chip?? haha...I guess i do more research in the future. And a soft mod won't work? So I have t purchase an external harddrive and load my games onto that? will I need software for my wii to recognize this?

Sorry, but you did waste money. If you can't return it, try selling the chip.
Follow Softmod ANY Wii and it will prepare your Wii for USB loading. USB is far better anyway. You don't have to keep buying DVD's, it is a lot faster, it doesn't wear on your DVD lens like burned discs, and you can keep all your games on one drive.

Srry if I sound like an idiot here...but if I soft mod according to that link can I play the burned wii games i have until I get an external hdd or can i load them onto either an sd card or usb flash drive in the meantime? also i read that it can be modded with the lego ind jones game...which i tried but the ind pwns never showed up??? I guess i should have lft this to a pro instead of messing with it myself :(

DVD drive and chipset features

Your drive most likely has the following chipset:

• There is a 50% chance the chipset is GC2-D3-2 (v2) with no drive chip.
• And there is also a 50% chance the chipset is Combined GC2-D3 with no drive chip.

You have a D3-2 chipset, so you can't play DVD's or burned backups. Just use your retail copies for GC games and USB for Wii games.

@jaytalor1974: You can try a flash drive until you get a HDD, but you won't be able to fit much, since the average game is around 3GB.

No, as it's not a Wii drive. That is why you can't put a game in your computer and rip it.

Playing your retail copies of GC games shouldn't be a problem. Before you softmodded, that is what you had to do.
