Where do I start, maybe with a title for this thread?

Hi. I got my wii soft-modded about a year ago by a friend. The problem is, I don't know where to start. I don't know if my custom firmware is out of date or how to update it, nor do I know which articles I should start reading (there's a lot of stuff to read!). I just wanted to know what I would need first (memory card, CD burner) to get custom content on my wii and where I would start to read about updating my custom firmware or for checking the current system its running on? Thanks in advance, I appreciate it.

You can either do the following, A is what i recomend because you say Custom firmware and the wii doesn't use any.
    A. The softmod any wii guide in my signature, it will do everything for you.
    B. There is a update your old softmod guide out there by junkmail.

You need to introduce yourself and wait for a mod to respond with helpful info and links. While you are waiting, I strongly suggest you look through the first link in my signature (Wii Softmodding - Basics and Beyond).

    Hey, thanks for the reply!

My Wii is already soft-modded. I said custom firmware as I am not too familiar with wii terms and slang yet XD. Do you have the link for the update softmod guide by junkmail? I think that is exactly what I need.

    Hello!

That is what I will do, thank you! But if my wii is soft-modded already and I don't know where to go from there, the first thing would be to update it to a more modern one, is it not?

You are correct. The Softmod ANY Wii guide is the way to go. You do need to post in the intro section though here.

Edit: oops just saw you already did...

That is part of just about any Softmod guide on here. Softmod ANY Wii is my favorite, but you can use another. You should wait for a response on your intro though.

First off, don't double post people get angry. After you introduced yourself, you will either get a link to the update your old softmod in that post or if you don't get one click on the part of my signature that says "useful links:" and it will bring you to a list off all of the guides. You can refollow the softmod any wii guide in my signature also; it overwrites everything. just start at the "with HBC already installed option".

Every guide here is good, but I believe most mods here will agree that the Softmod ANY Wii guide is the most "up to date". Good Luck!

That wasn't completely true until less than a month ago, but mauifrog recently did an overhaul on the guide and updated all the files, including IOS's.
