Had a wii returned twice - drive on the way out?

I hacked my mate's wii about 5 weeks ago. A week after doing it he brought it back to me as no backups were playing. I redid the hack and it was working fine again. He brought it back again saying only 2 out of 10 games work now, the others just click and get a disc read error. I tried a game in my wii and it played fine, tried it in his and got a disc read error. Is it possible the laser is on the way out or is there any possibility some files have been overwritten?? Originals play fine btw.

Yeah, I do them all the same. I have it set not to do disc or network updates. Its the first I've ever had returned.

you can try to clean the drive with one of the cleaning discs.. or try a system check and see if HE altered something since he's had it.. he might have some setting switched around..

    ok possibilities:
-bad cIOS possibly need a different rev/base? make sure it is the latest
-bad burn media I hear you should use verbatim discs or ritek g05 dvd-r ( NOT dvd+r )
-try a different burning software ie with imgburn change the booktype to dvd_rom at 2x speed or burnware(never used it but have heard it works)
-also check the region settings.. is it region free? is he trying to play an out of region back up?

In my opinion switching to CFG and using a usb HDD is a better option..

**Edit: also this may be of interest to you.
