Question USB Loader GX and FAT32 Partition - Cannot play any games?

    Hello :-)

    Wii Info:
    SysMenu: 4.1e
Mods: Priiloader, BootMii installed as Boot2 and HBC installed.

I used to load games from my HDD, using USB Loader GX and a WBFS partition. It works fine, but today i wanted to start using a FAT32 partition.

That decision raised multiple problems to me, listed below..

    • Starting the USB Loader GX is now only possible though HBC (1.0.7). Using the GX forwarder in my sysmenu, results in the Wii either crashing (black screen with debug text), reboots (depending on the GX version on the HDD), or tells me that i need to select a partition to view games on - and when i select a partition, it crashes with debug text (i think this stopped being an issue when i updated my cIOS's). When loading through HBC (GX version 2.0, latest) it loads fine, but cannot play any games (next problem)..

    • Playing games from the FAT32 drive is not possible? I can see the games, but when i run them, i just get a black screen, the game never loads (tried New Super Mario Bros and Harry Potter 1-4)

    sysCheck log

    I have tried updating IOS 202, 222, 223, 249, 250.. Please help

The reason you can't load gx 2.0 with the forwarder is because u don't have ios58. Go to the guide in my Sig on usb loader gx.

Did u try loading games using a different cIOS? You are loading games with 247 rev 17. I don't believe that supports fat32. Switch it to load with 223 or another

Thank you, i will look into IOS58 right away, and switch IOS to load.. You say i use 247, but you mean 249, right?

In your guide, you mention cIOS 224, and Waninkoko's cIOS'es for slot 247 and 248, I don't have them, would you recommend me to install them? They are in the recommended section after all :-)

    Regards

Yes I meant 249.... app mobile mistake!

I suggest following Richardsito's fantastic guide. Yes install what is needed. Than load with a different cIOS. There is a fat32 section in that guide as well

I copied this out of the fat32 guide...

**FAT32 USB Loading will only work with Hermes cIOS222/223 or with cIOSx Rev 19 +**

GX loads to black screen when started from priiloader, and reboots wii when loaded from sysmenu (did not install a different forwarder into sysmenu, that shouldnt be the difference?). I dont get the partition-issues anymore, so thats good, but games still load to black screen, tried cIOS 249 and 223. Will try 224 and 222 tomorrow, and will post updated chart of cIOS info

Thanks so far, see you tomorrow..

NEW SysCheck Log (Updated all cIOS as recommended)

Apart from updating the cIOS's, i installed a new forwarder, and used the 2.0 priiloader dol, from the guide richardsito made ({Guide} Preparing and Installing USB Loader GX)..

Now i can start USB Loader GX via Priiloader or System menu - as long as it loads from SD card. USB (FAT32) still wont launch. If i want to launch from USB; i must go through HBC.

As far as games go, i tested cIOS 249, 222, 223 and 224, and none of them will start super mario 25th anniversary edition, but NSMB works fine.. Any suggestions? I can test more games if wanted, i have 64 on the USB drive, took hours to convert from discs.

cIOS 249 rev 17 doesn't support FAT32 Loading.......... Just keep the forwarder on the SD card.

Trying Force PAL60 to get the anniversary edition to work. That is if it is a PAL game

    cIOS 249 rev 17 doesn't support FAT32 Loading
Darn! Cant i surcumvent that..? I *really* want it all to load from USB.... rev 18 of cIOS249? Or could i use another cIOS to launch GX, one that supports FAT32? Does it support FAT? Then i will just make a *tiny* partition to load it from, formatted with FAT.

Thanks for the quick reply, love it!

EDIT: All stars is running, forced region to PAL!

EDIT2: Thinking about updating cIOS249 to a more recent version, but i am unsure what to install into slot 249. When installing cIOS's, as WAD files, i never get the option to choose slot.. I guess they are preprogrammed, unless you change the slot (seen guides on how to do it), but the preprogrammet slot is not clearly stated in the guides, or else i am missing it..

you should use rev 20 for fat loading. look back at the guide, you also should have deleted everything gx related and started completely fresh with 2.0. You can install your cios into any slot you want too. Instructions are in the cios section of the guide.

If you follwed the guide correctly youll have ios 249 rev 17 this cios does not work with fat32 partitions youll have to load the games with ios 224, 223 222 or 250

If you didnt complete the step to cha ge the base the cios install youmust go back and do it. Those cios were instLled to slot 220 if you didnt changed the base.
