USB Backup help for an utter noob :o\

Hey all, just got my first Wii console (black 4.2), primarily to test and verify the read state of Wii & Gamecube discs.

Spent the morning reading up on the quickest methods available (ftp, usb, sd) and the backup to USB method looks quickest, with USB LoaderGX 2.0 seeming the most current / updated release (correct me if I'm wrong ).

Batthaxx'd, installed homebrew channel w/ bootmii (on IOS), then started getting confused.

Is there any up-to-date guide on how to get it working? The USB Loader readme references a load of old cIOS and DopMii packages, but I got this far following ReadMii - USB Loader GX ...

Installed latest DopMii release as of today, using Install IOS36 (v3351) w/FakeSign and accepting all default options. Seemed to go ok.

The used cIOS r21, patched IOS36 (via network install, which succeeded), accepted all other default options, then the last one failed with an error (1075 or something like that).

Got out of that, tried to figure out what was going on, and everything got major confusing.

Figured I'd try the following guide as it's more up to date:
[link removed--- follow a wiihacks guide]
But get as far as attempting to run Bootmii from Homebrew channel and it just gives a black screen with flashing dvd light. Reset console, and starting hombrew channel once gave me a "system settings are corrupt" message. Reboot, restart homebrew and it's fine, but bootmii still won't load (not that I really know what to do with it, just wanted to backup nand before messing anything else up).

Soo... Now I don't wanna touch it as I've no idea what I'm doing, and don't wanna brick anything (console it was next to free, but still...). Anyone got a guide on how to just set things up so I can rip a disc somewhere, purley to verify that it's readable in the first place? Thanks

Black Wii's will not play backups from disc. Usb loading is your only option.

    clearly

Okeydokey then, didn't think I'd need to post my cv. feel free to move this to an introduction forum few are likely to read, if you'd like, but i'm sure this'll get much more notice:

Hi, I'm chris aka pepsi_max2k since before possibly some of you were born I run a small video game sales business. I have more technical & business knowledge than 100 regular video game store staff put together. i also have very little free time to come up with time saving solutions to free up time to come up with more time saving solutions.

    I wrote this guide: [removed]
on running xebian (*nix os) on xbox 1.
    this guide: [removed]
on video transcoding with nuvexport / mythtv.
    this guide:[removed]
on recreating a fon hotspot on a wrt54g with chillispot (few cronjobs, some bash, simples).

And a bizzilion others, mainly becuase I get whenever people release software for wide use and can't be arsed to create useable how-tos / readmes. but maybe it's just me. alas, I probably won't have the time to make a wii one, but hey ho, I'll leave that to the younguns.

you know, when I said noob, I only meant for the wii. if I had a week to ask in a billion forums and put together 50 poorly writen guides on released spanning 2 years, I wouldn't be here or maybe i would. where theres guides need a writing...

    >> Following a guide from another forum = FAIL3x
    >> Posting the guide from another forum utter FAIL..

oops. and oops. and ooops again. does writing guides for other forums count? oops more.

So, anyway, if there's some grownups about, any chance of pointing me towards said useable guides? or just the odd tip?

thanks, though I'm not in the least bit interested in playing anything at all. just ripping it, for the sake of reading it. imagine a nero scandisc for wii, that's all i need, though an ftp rip or wii drive > USB or SD will do fine, so long as it gives feedback on read failure. modded pc drives seem heckaslow, just like my 360 reading pc drive (gave up on it and just rip on a 360 now). gamecube ftp is sloooow. usb loader on wii of somesort seems the best option just need a quick way to get one running, no time to research much so searching for a helpful guru instead

    >> for such a smart and knowledgeable guy that would seem to be easy, no?

tell you what seems easy - usb loader gx.

somehow, without actually doing anything, it's currently ripping a lego batman disc to a usb hd.

i guess hacking together a solution from a few basic guides in 10 minutes with no prior knowledge and not even knowing what a cios is (actually, there's a great guide on this forum as to what that is) but erm.... yeah, hit a few buttons, figured "what the hell, may as well just see what running the usb loader dol does" and erm... fully working? at least to rip. and who cares if it plays em (well, some may, but anyway).

fwiw, i have searched, but like I say I'm about 4 years late, with 1000s of posts in 100s of forums on differing cios / bootmii / hackmii / stuff I ain't got a clue about. anyway.... quick how-to coming soon for you caring used game sellers.

This thread is very hard to follow.

    @pepsi_max2k
I thought you would have taken the hint when I edited out the link in your original post and yet you linked three other guides and copied and pasted one directly..... STOP IT!!
