I formatted an old HDD to use with my wii for games (backups) can I put the apps onto that? if so, how do I install them?
I just tried off the SD card again and got read error -116
This is the same SD card I used to mod the wii with no issues. I also put a movie on it to watch on the wii (re-formatted before trying to do Step 3 again)
I think I would like to keep my SD available to mod another wii and to watch movies on the wii.

@oddgriffin, im not always sure the exception dsi occured is always by a bad sd card. i just bought a new sandisk 2gb sd card, but i still get the error on neogamma when trying to play backups.

Indeed, that is why my post suggested several examples of issues with the sd card. One of which was corrupted data and/or an interruption of reading/writing the data for any particular reason.
This can also happen with the hard drive if it is using it to read the configuration files from rather than the sd card.
Sometimes a simple reboot, is all that is necessary to break through the barrier, other times data needs to be found or replaced. In worse examples hardware needs replaced.

I also believe HBB is more likely to give this error since it is reading/writing data that is being transferred via the internet. Rather than files created by the console itself or transferred from the pc.

so wat ur suggesting is that there may be something wrong with the wii itself? if so, wat needs to be replaced because i get this error on neogamma when trying to play backups

Is your homebrew/ loader configuration files on the sd card? If it is the DSI error, there are corrupted files. Likely to be in the neogamma configuration file.
Are you loading via, homebrew channel, a channel, or a loader that is still using Homebrew's .dol file. There can be other issues with variations of loader settings that can cause this.
Not likely to be a hardware issue unless the DSI error is happening with other things. Usually they stop reading with hardly any sign of problems, but you bought a new sd card and it is reading it for other thing just fine, correct?

Keep in mind that we are talking about the DSI exception error (code dump/ crash). This is specific to the topic of this thread. Any other errors would be caused for other reasons, and they are discussed in many other areas of the forum.
