Did I screw it up by formatting? Trying to update to 4.3

Hello, I was using a softmodded Wii, but I got a couple of games that required an update to 4.3. The warning message on the update told me that I may brick the Wii if there was any modification software on it, so I performed a format from the Wii system settings menu. I am now getting "Error Code: 32004" when I try to perform the update. The connection test is always successful, but the download hands at 0% and eventually fails. Is there some mod files still on there preventing it from updating? I have removed all homebrew channels/etc but keep getting this error.

Joostin slaps bob for removing softmods, formatting, and trying to update!

BAD BOB! VERY, VERY BAD BOB!

You just did three of the stupidest things possilbe.

Nintendo lies. You didn't need to update, and the warning message isn't true either. Updates are just as likely to brick a virgin Wii as they are a softmodded one.

I suggest you go ahead and follow the Softmod ANY Wii guide in my signature before you decide hitting it with a sledge hammer will fix everything. Don't skip any steps either.

I didn't need an update? I bought a copy of Kirby's Epic Yarn for my gf for Christmas, and it will not allow her to play without the update! So I should re-mod it? Will this replace the old mod files? I thought formatting it would "Virginize" my Wii, so that's why I did it. I mostly use my Wii for actual purchased games. I guess I should have asked about it before starting the process. I will follow your guide now and get back in here if I have any problems. Thank you.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh on you, but formatting (and updating) could have done a lot of damage. Once you finish that guide, updates will be blocked. You won't see that message again.

Btw, don't expect help with games that you didn't purchase. Piracy is illegal, and it's not supported by WiiHacks.

Thank you for the guide. It worked perfectly. I now have HBC back, as well as Configurable USB Loader, Backup Disc Channel, and loadMii.

I would like to rip/backup my bought games. Do I need to use Wiiflow to do this? Do you have a guide for installing Wiiflow? I looked at a couple posted but they were not nearly as clear as your guide for softmodding ANY Wii. I have my external hard drive formatted to fat32, but I don't know what to do next.

Mauifrog wrote that softmod guide. It is excelent, because it covers just about everything. For playing backups, I strongly suggest Configurable USB Loader (included in the guide you used), since it has the best compatibility. Don't use GX. It is unstable, and lately it has been bricking Wii's. Config is safe though.

On the root of your HDD you need to make a folder named "wbfs". Now you should be good to go for USB loading. Plug the HDD into the USB port closest to the edge, start Configurable USB Loader from the HBC, and press + to install your games. It will automatically scrub, convert, and split the games for you. If you have wifi, you can download the cover art for it too. Just press 1 twice and choose to download all cover art.

Wow, it is working perfectly. Thank you very much for the advice. Config seems much more stable than USB Loader GX. I have one more question. I have old iso back up files stored on my PC. Is there any way to move them to Config USB Loader without burning onto DVDs? I do not want to format to use WBFS manager if I don't have to. I would rather stay fat32. Thanks again, you have been very helpful.

Yes, I am having trouble with it, though. Using WiI Game Manager, I can transfer the ISO over, download cover art/etc just fine, but if I try to load the game on my Wii, the screen goes black and the Wii locks up. This does NOT happen with Ripped discs, only ISO backups stored on my PC. Any ideas?

Stop using ISO's. It's only legal to have backups of games if you own a retail copy, so unless you are a pirate, it shouldn't be a problem.
