AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Stuck trying to use "Softmod Any Wii" instructions... black screen

Sorry for being such a noob, but I've never done any of this before, and I read up on here for a few days first, but...

I decided to go with the "Guide: Softmod ANY Wii" instructions as they seemed pretty straight forward. I'm on 4.2U with a virgin Wii.

I did the first step, got the sd card in, and did the wad install.

Then on step 2, it says:

Part 2- Install The HomeBrew Channel and Bootmii
Read the Scam warning and press 1
It may take a minute or two for the "press 1" to appear- be patient
    Install the HomeBrew Channel
Install Bootmii as Boot2(boot2 may not be available, IOS installs automatically)
    Prepare the SD-card
If Step1 fails with error "no vulnerable ios", DO THIS

Well, let's see... I read the scam installer, pressed 1, and then... well I don't have it in front of me, but it said something like HBC can be installed. Bootmii can only be installed as ios since boot1 version is installed, can't do boot2.

The curser was on "continue" I think. Up until now, all instructions had been very specific about what button to press... but here, they just say "Install the homebrew channel"

So I pressed A for continue or whatever... which brought me to another page talking about installing HBC, and cursor now on exit.

If I was supposed to do something else, I don't know what it is since instructions gave no specifics about how to install...

... anyway, the screen has been black for half an hour now with a blue flashing light in the dvd drive.

I'm afraid to do anything now for fear of causing a problem....

... so I'm waiting for advice.

    thx.

It might be an issue with your SD card. Is it on this list?

FYI, you should be asking this question in the guide. It's just easier that way.

It's a 1or 2G scandisk formatted with the sd formatter2.0 that was in the guide.

ok... will ask there too... just thought it might be a typical generic problem not having to do with that guide in particular.

I read the blackscreen link above... not sure if I should redo the sd drive and follow it's instuctions or just wait for now until I hear something back.

I checked the guide. it only mentions 2gb and up... but I read several times on here that 1 or 2 gb scandisk is best. All this one says on it is 1.0 GB and Scandisk.

It was recognized for the first step. I could see the files on it... it just froze when I hit continue... and then hit A again for exit. I don't think this issue is specific to that guide... seems like a very basic thing to have happen at a basic level, and I had barely begun following the instructions.

I had to take the sd card out now to check it's specs.

First things first... still blackscreen. Should I do what the blackscreen thread says and load the sd card with the recommended boot software (hackmii installer fix) and reboot from that?

Also, were the other posts incorrect? is 1Gb scandisk no good? This is a quite old one I'm sure, but it is working otherwise.

Acatually, the directions for the blackscreen start with selecting the sd icon on the wii desktop.... don't see how that's possible when I'm looking at a blackscreen.

can you choose a different option??
My 4.3u went to a black screen after a similar step in a different guide. I powered off the wii and powered it back on while holding the reset button down. hackmii and HBC were installed correctly. I then continued on with the guide.. I had to take a deep breath doing it but it worked...

Did I come off like a jerk?? Read more here

First off do not bump your post within a 24 hour period. Second I advised you to ask your questions in the guide you are following. You did so but came back to this one and started asking further questions. You need to be patient. It is the middle of the afternoon and there are not a lot of people on to answer your question.
