Newbie question (sorry if it's been asked a million times)

    This is my setup:

Soft-modded Wii (Twilight hack, no mod-chip).
Firmware 3.2E (HBC with various Apps (including Starfall), Backup Channel)

I've seen that certain games have updated firmware bundled with them, so I was wondering a few things:

    1. Does it update without asking you?
    2. If so, is there any way to stop it?
    3. If it does ask and you say no, does it stop the game working?
    4. If so, is there any way around this?
    5. Is there a thread somewhere with a list of games that include firmware updates?

    Thanks in advance.

it does ask you on disc updates but you cant press cancel, it wont let you.

funnily enough you can block these updates with backup loaders or STARFALL (only on 3.2E or U)

not updating games could stop them working BUT fixing couldnt be easier, install IOS files to the wii, then your games will work.
Here to help in anyway shape and or form (or at least try, ive been out of the wii scene for quite a while)

    Thanks for that.

While I have your ear a quick question about WAD files. I've been stupid and installed a WAD, then changed the name of the file on my SD card (because I'm anally retentive about categorising stuff). If I try and uninstall the WAD, will it correctly identify which file I'm talking about, or would it be a better idea to just uninstall using the Wii's standard channel removal feature? The reason I ask is because I'm paranoid about removing something but the Wii not realising, and me not getting the blocks back.

The 3.4 update (newest) asks you to update. If you accept this update, you also agree to the user license.

The new user license states that Nintendo can update your firmware without notification.

You can do a few things.

    1. WiiBrickBlock your .ISO files.
    2. Install StarFall and configure it with the update blocker "on"
    3. Disconnect your WiFi

If you decline a disc update, you can't play it.

Now, I'm not too familiar with SoftMods. I have a WiiKey 2.

I'm currently on a 3.2U firmware. Animal Crossing requires a 3.4. Previously, I'd try to run the disc and yield a black screen. I used the .WAD Manager to install cIOS files 38, 53, and 55.

Now, Animal Crossing works on my 3.2.

There is somewhere, but I can't find it.

Here's some off of the top of my head.

3.2 = Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart
    3.3 = not sure
3.4 = Animal Crossing, Call of Duty 5, Need For Speed: Undercover

Newb to WII, only hacked PSP

Sorry for the ignorance on this stuff, but here is what I want to do. Don't care about "backed-up" games.

    - All I want is vintage Nintendo (maybe others) games.
    - I just recently purchased my WII and immediately after connecting the wifi, it asked if I wanted to update...since I am an experienced PSP hacker, I should have known better...but I did it anyway. I believe I was under the impression that vintage games were free to play...since all of the WII stuff is soooo overpriced.

    - I've read that if I downgrade to 3.2 firmware I can run homebrew, but I'd rather use whatever WII's engine is for running the VG's.
    - Is this possible and if not, how do I get myself setup with homebrew.
    - I was gonna start with this Twilight 3.4 hack.

    HELP PLEASE

You can install Homebrew Channel on 3.4
You can install Backup Loader on 3.4
The biggest reasons for downgrading to 3.2 are (i) you can install Wads, but you've said you're not bothered about this, and (ii) you can install Starfall, which you'll need if you semi brick your Wii, though it's doubtful that you'll do this with what you're planning on doing, and (iii) the 3.4 firmware means you agree to Nintendo updating you console without any permission from you. This is HUGE IMO.

So the Homebrew Channel will allow me to play vintage games from my SD card?
