Not able to read most of my DVD backups anymore

This is a great forum, but by searching around i have still not been able to find a working solution to my problem.

I have an old wii (from 2007), hard-modded 3 years ago with the original Wiikey. Firmware of wiikey is now 1.99beta.
I was running on wii firmware 3.2E for years and everything was working well. A year ago or something like that I upgraded to 3.4E from a disc update, and then 60% of my backups stopped working: Not able to read disc, please refer to Wii manual.
I went through the "softmod any wii" guide on this forum, installed HBC, Darkcorp, Neogamma 9.47 etc and updated the firmware to 4.1E. The wii is still not able to load those problem DVD backup games after doing the softmodding (no improvment by softmodding)
Even old games like WiiPlay will not load from my backup DVDs (the loaded perfectly a few years ago when I had 3.2E on the Wii, but stopped working the moment I upgraded to 3.4E.

I use Verbatim DVD+R discs which always worked prior to the 3.4E update.

Any suggestions what I should try next?

Thanks for your reply, but how do you explain that the DVDs stopped working at the very moment I updated from 3.2E to 3.4E???

not sure mate coincidence maybe i have a drivekey and am on sys menu 3.4E and have no problems as far as i know DVD+R put a lot of strain on the wii dvd drive maybe the update disc was the last straw and has killed ya dvd drive. Do original discs still work? since ive softmodded and now use a usb loader discs are no longer a issue for playing backups

    Just to update and conclude.
I transfered my DVDs to DVD-R and they worked; problem solved.
Why most of my DVD+R stopped working at the very moment i updated from 3.2 to 3.4 is still unknown to me, and confused the case. But the problem was at least solved by transfering the DVDs to DVD-R (I used Verbatim as most people recommend).

(As far as i know the system menu update should not be a firmware update, so it is quite strange that the update made so many DVD+Rs stopped working.)

Anyway, thanks for tips and tricks in this forum.
