Noob question: preloader v0.27, systemmenu v290, not doing anything..

Okay, whilst i've softmodded a couple of Wii's in the past, this one has gone way over my limited level of knowledge.

A while ago, I was given a Wii by a friend of a friend who believed he'd hacked a little too far and couldn't do anything with it anymore.

I slung it under my bed and forgot all about it.

I recently unpacked it, figuring i'd see if it could be rescued, then leave it at my girlfriends house as a media player/emulation machine.

Upon switching it on, I get a black screen with the following writing:

load systemmenu (when selected, it says: 'error autobooting systemmenu!')
load HBC (when selected, it says: 'error autobooting HBC, maybe title not installed?')
load installed file (when selected, it says: 'error autobooting file, try reinstalling!')
install/load file (when selected, it takes you to a screen which says: 'NO SD card found')
    settings

In the bottom left hand corner of the screen, it says:
    IOS v30
    Systemmenu v290

And in the bottom right hand corner, it says:
    preloader v0.27

Now, considering i've had it for around about a year (and i've no idea how long he was sitting on it), it'll probably be a little outdated in what it can do/can't do.

I have no idea if it's been chipped or softmodded, and sadly can't get in touch with the guy who gave it to me anymore.

Would anyone be so kind to point me in the right direction of how to get this thing up and running again and maybe update it to a more current hacked state?

    Apologies if i'm asking a basic/noobish question..

Well, I would try to see whether you have bootmii as boot2 installed. If the disc drive flashes twice when you turn it on, you have bootmii as boot2. If it flashes once, then you don't have bootmii as boot2. If you have bootmii as boot2, the you can use a tutorial to fix the wii, it can be found in the bricked section.
Awesome sig picture does not work

Sadly, it seems to only flash once when it's turned on.

Where do I go from here?

EDIT: Pressing the power off button turns the power light yellow and puts it into a stand-by state. To turn it off (and turn the light red), I have to hold the power button down for around 5 seconds.

You are not having the same issue. You updated your wii and stopped the update halfway through. This was very unwise to do. I recommend you make a new thread in the bricked section, if you haven't already done so. If you are lucky, we might able to fix it.

@OP: Could you try using another SD card? Maybe your current SD just doesn't work.
