    Update old softmodded Wii

I want to update a Wii of a friend that is softmodded a few years ago, I haven't checked which version it is, but properly something like 3.4E.

There is HBC installed, but no preloader/priiloader and properly only bootmii as ios and no NAND Backup, so now I suggested him to put his Wii like mine, on system menu 4.3E, with priiloader and Bootmii luckely as boot2 and a Backup.

But I was just wondering, is there a guide to do this? Or can someone just tell me what the safest thing is.

    I would probably try this:

    1) Get NAND Backup by placing the Bootmii folder on the SD and Start Bootmii, and also try to install it as boot2.
    2) Update HBC to latest version so it will not be deleted if I update the wii to 4.3E
    3) Start over the Wii 4.3E Mod Guide but skip the indiana jones hack, just start with installing Bootmii again and take a new Backup.

But I read somewhere that you may not update HBC when on System Menu 3.x, but maybe I wasn't quite awake when I read it.

And I know you would probably say, why update, but let me say that I just want it the same way as my Wii. And also for playing COD online, it will suggest an update, and I know it is possible to only update the shop channel and propably the usb2.0 support, but then it looks to me easier to just do the thing I usually do when starting from a 'virgin' 4.3E Wii, because I am familiar with that.

    Thanks Already

    Thx

Just one question, why is everybody want to use 4.1 instead of the latest 4.3. The only thing different is the bannerbomb, but I would think you don't need it once it is modded, so ok, I can't see any advantages for 4.3, but also no disadvantages.

And another question, when you have priiloader and the correct hacks enabled, what happens if the Wii ask to update, for example when there is a new shop channel and you want to go shopping, and you press yes? Is priiloader blocking that update, or is priiloader just blocking the disc update en online update question?

    Grtz

with priiloader if the hacks are enabled if you put an original disc in that requires an update it will not show up. if an internet update is asked and you click yes it will give you an error and that means it is blocked. with the shopping channell there is a guide here http://www.wiihacks.com/general-home...v20-guide.html you can update the shopping channel without going through nintendo

    Thx,

I have version 4.3 on my own wii so no need to update the shopping channel anymore, but I was wondering if it was going to give an error or not, just to make sure that it is childproof.

Another thing, can an update brick your Wii? Because I know a downgrade can brick it, but I would think that an update can't brick it, that it can only remove cios and HBC and stuff.
