Homebrew channel not loading up with external HDD plugged in

Hey folks hope somebody here can help.

I couldn't get Metroid Other M and Super Smash Bros working properly, did a lot of reading around and eventually (against my better judgment) decided to use PimpMyWii as despite some warnings, had been reading from a lot of forums etc that this seemed to fix these issues for a lot of people.

After that HBC appeared upside down, everything ran as normal though (other than that the few games that didnt work properly before still didnt). I then tried to fix the upside down issue and reinstalled HBC (havign read on several forums that that works). Now if I have an external HDD plugged in HBC won't boot up at all (just goes black and stays like that), if I plug it out HBC will load but then no USB loaders will detect the HDD if I plug it back in again later.

I tried deleting the HBC and redoing it from scratch, or installing over it, no luck. If it makes a difference the previous HBC seemed an older version than the newer one (seems to have updated itself via download - assume it is newer as it has new background etc).

I have a nand backup from a while ago of my old setup if worse comes to worst but not here right now (might not be able to get it for another couple of weeks) and was hoping there might be a simple fix I could do to get this working now.

*Edited to add, (sorry for being such a noob), I have always been running the usb loaders off SD card. Booted with HBC then from there loaded USB Loader GX/Config USB loader, no USB loaders as a main channel, if that wasn't clear.

Well, you have been lucky that you didn't brick your wii. I have seen quite some people who used PimpMyWii in the bricked section. Anyway, could you please do a syscheck and post it here? You can use SysCheck to make one.

Thanks for the info. Yeah it was risky but from what I read most people were singing its praises so I thought with a nand backup etc I may as well try. Glad I didn't have to learn the really hard way!

Tried to run the syscheck program but as the bar gets about 3/4 of the way through (says its checking IOS vulnerability or sth like that) the blue light flashes continuously and the program freezes. So it looks like it's something's pretty stuffed up. I guess I'll just have to wait till I can get the nand file and use that, unless anyone knows of anything else. Thanks again.

Well, try doing a syscheck again, but this time try DOP-Mii: WiiBrew Edition to make it. Also, please tell us what you did, if you remember.
