Hit a wall with tutorial (DopMii, cIOS)

I've been following this guide: Someone else's guide. Doesn't really matter who, cause it isn't a wiihacks guide.

which explains how to play wii games from an external drive.

I got all the way up to the Dop-Mii part, right to the end and then the Wii seemed to freeze and I reset it. I suppose it could have been downloading something large but that is hind-sight.

this is the last step I completed of the guide:
    IOS36 (u3351) w/FakeSign - completed
    ES_Identify patch to IOS36 - completed
    NAND perm patch - completed
Load IOS36 v3351 - Wii appeared to be frozen after quite some time, so I reset it.

I did attempt the next step with CIOS (and failed with error -1035) which may be why IOS 250 shows it has the bugs in the following SysCheck report:

    Code:
    sysCheck v20
    NTSC-U
    sys menu 4.2 (481)
    hollywood 0x21
    Boot2 v4

    68 titles
37 IOS, 13 of them stub

IOS 1 - trucha, ES Ident, Flash Access, NAND Access
IOS 36 Trucha, ES Ident, NAND Access
IOS 250 - Trucha, ES Ident, NAND Access
    IOS 254 BootMii

    stubs: 3,4,10,11,16,20,30,50,51,60,222,223,249
(also may not be out of the ordinary at this point, but Netflix now complains that I need to do a firmware upgrade to use)

    Wii serial number: LU70

my question is, should I attempt to re-do the Dop-Mii thing, or try again with cIOS, or ... what?

    thanks

Just wanna know why you would come here to ask about the outcome of using someone else's guide, when you could use one of our guides that we could actually reference and may have some experience with to help you.

Yes, nice (ahem, not) first post. You also forgot to post a quick "hello" in the Introductions section of the site, something we ask of first-timers (aside from refraining from doing "other guys'" softmods and then come here to cry foul when something goes sideways). Welcome to wiihacks.

I guess this is just one of those areas of interest where people expect more community than objectivity. That's not what I'm used to. so Hello.

I'd like just fine to use one of your guides, but as I'm already stuck in the middle of another I'd like some advice before I gp mucking things up worse.

The advice goes this way: stop failing (or flailing) at another guide. Start ours from the beginning. Win. If you're following another guide, why aren't you asking those folks? We're not picking on you, just being direct.

Error 1035: no trucha. Netflix you say? Might want to learn what Priiloader is and follow Emuhack's "Netflix for Dummies" guide on our site if you decide to follow our softmod guides. Witness your complete lack of IOS 249... stubbed IOS.

Being objective is one thing, but when you have a site full of guides on almost all aspects of hacking the console. and ppl are asking about other guides that obviously don't offer support. That is asking us to be more tha objective, that is asking us to clean up after everyone else on the net.

alright, to make things simpler -

I'm following your full hacking guide for 4.2 system menus, I've completed Part A (HBC installed, BootMii installed as IOS, NAND backed up)

after that, I've done some other things I maybe shouldn't have: I used Dop-MII and ended up with these IOSs on my Wii:

    Code:

IOS 1 - trucha, ES Ident, Flash Access, NAND Access
IOS 36 Trucha, ES Ident, NAND Access
IOS 250 - Trucha, ES Ident, NAND Access
    IOS 254 BootMii
    stubs: 3,4,10,11,16,20,30,50,51,60,222,223,249
every other IOS all patches disabled

    Was that a bad move?

Now I'm on to Part B, I just want to confirm that the I'm not going to cause any problems after having used Dop-MII, which isn't part of the tutorial.

    also there is
cios38rev17 out, but the guide says to use cios38rev14. should I go with the tut or use the latest version?

thanks guys, I know you go over this junk daily with newbs but I'm just trying to be cautious with my wii.

Just follow the guide, it will unstubb the needed ios's and overwrite anything done incorrectly. You can install the cios rev14 for now, then use the rev17 installer as it will overwrite the other older cios.

I've completed your guide. my wii is now hacked to it's full potential.

one thing I'd like to note about the guide is that it's not necessary to format the SD card over and over again if it's already a fat/vfat/fat32 file system. simply deleting the files from the previous step is all that is needed.

Indeed, but formatting it offers the clean slate that some folks need instead of having them delete specific files. Also not all consoles and sd cards are created equally and can give folks issues that a simple reformat seems to fix most of the time.
