i have been doing the wii updates which probaly didnt help

ive been told i need to get hold of this update to reverse the problem

if your games were all trucha signed its possible that that is the reason.
however it could be the media you used is not a good one so over time its made the wii laser unable to read them anymore. using higher quality media will help.
