Can't read SD card after accidental SMG2 Update

I've searched all over and can't find this topic so forgive me if I missed it.
A month or so ago my kids put Super Mario Galaxy 2 in and accepted the update. Needless to say it threw a stub in and now I can't get at my USB port and HD.
I looked at all of the other posts and I can't find my problem listed.
I can still run games off disk. Homebrew Channel is still showing up.
I was going to try to remod the Wii as suggested in posts but when I bring up my "SD" from the bottom left corner in the main menu, it's just showing empty blocks. I know the SD has everything on it from looking at in on the computer.
    My Wii is at 4.2U.
Do I need to start with a fresh SD card maybe??
    Thanks for any advice.
And please go easy on me if I missed something obvious. I've been trying countless things on my own but I'm close to giving up.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes you need to Re-mod. Your card is either not supported or not formatted correctly...should be 2GB or less standard SD card. Full format it and download and extract the soft-mod pack again. Follow shadowsonics 4.2 Guide.
    Damn I suck!!!!

    Thanks Krank,
I will try that. I guess the only reason I was saving that as a last resort was I had downloaded songs on the SD and didn't want to lose them. It's the same card I've been using from the start. That's why I was puzzled when I couldn't get it to work again.
    I'll give it a shot.

Just backup your SD card to your PC before formatting.

    Krank,
So far so good. You may have saved my ass. I'm still working out the bugs with all the music games that require some changes with the GX Loader and I ran out of Wii system memory but I moved some stuff to the SD.
Someone else modded my system the first time and I watched but didn't understand what he was doing. Now that I've done it myself I have a little more understanding of how it works.
I still haven't figured out how I'm going to get the downloaded songs back I purchased that were on the SD but I'll work on that later.
P.S. when I get paid I WILL be donating. This site saved me from my wife and kids hating me for modding the wii then screwing it up. (they loved me when it was working)
    Thanks again.
