Red face Yeargh. What a mess this thread title is. Help? :)

So here's my story. I have a relatively old wii, maybe a few years old. I bought and installed a drivekey back in early December of '09, before they came out with the NSMB update, if that's relevant at all.

When the 4.2 update came out, I installed it(argh) to be able to use the internet channel. Egads. Of course my out-of-region burned disks wouldn't work, blah blah.

Fast forward a few months, and about two weeks ago I installed the Homebrew channel, as well as the USB loader GX channel. My drivekey is still inside the wii.

I bought a 1TB Western Digital Elements SE Portable External HD, partitioned it into 2gb FAT32 as a substitute for an SD card, 200gb NTFS for game ISOs, and the rest NTFS for my other non-wii related files. I formatted the 200gb WBFS and put SSB Brawl onto it.

Unplugged, hooked it up to the Wii, ran Brawl successfully- until I finished the first 'classic' game. After the 12 fights and the credits rolled, I got the classic 'an error has occurred...' blah blah blah error. I looked it up and found this thread:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/software-bac...s-occured.html

So I went to install Hermes with this guide:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/wii-custom-s...os-v4-out.html

But long story short, I wasn't connected to the internet and couldn't finish steps 7/8:
    7. Select to Install Custom IOS 222 and select IOS38
    8. Wait for download and installation to complete
At least, that's what I gathered from the screen, which said something about failure to connect to network, blah blah.

So I restarted my wii, went to check internet settings, and after trying five or six times to connect to my wireless, couldn't. My wii found the access point fine each time, but the connection test consistently failed. I'm positive the WEP key is right; I even tried disabling my wireless's security and connecting; no dice.

Any help? If it's relevant, the softmod guide I used was this:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...tem-menus.html

and I believe I installed priiloader correctly. If I messed up some of the IOS or something, could that be the issue?

Thanks so much for any help. Sorry for the longass post. Oh, one last thing. Whenever I've run the USB Loader GX channel, the bottom third of the screen blinks green, more green than black.

You can install Hermes V4 offline via the procedure outlined here. Be aware if your SSBB errors out after the first match, likely you are using a pirated copy that wasn't ripped correctly. We do not support this. You need an original disc, or it needs ripped properly with either Hermes V4 or newer, or IOS 249 Rev 17 (Rev 14 has broken dual layer support). Out of region game playing on a hardmodded Wii @ 4.2 ain't gonna happen. Mauifrog does have a guide for such hardmodded users to get you back to 4.1 here.

Thanks...I think? I obtained the ISO, unscrubbed, from somewhere; chances are low but possible that it was ripped wrongly, I guess. I assumed that the issue was that which was stated in the thread I linked, the issue with the dual-layer disk, or rather just the large file size. If I downloaded the scrubbed iso would it work? The unscrubbed version had positive comments confirming that it worked, though. Forgive me for sounding like a nub; Hermes is a ripper?

And I've already accepted that I won't be able to play out-of-region ISOs. Thanks for your help! Any idea what could be wrong with the internet?

I'll not speculate further, as stated material discussion or assistance in such cases is clearly against the rules (that's a hint). Hermes is another cIOS (222) like Wani's cIOS (249). "Accept that I won't"? You mean choose not to solve it via the linked guide.

I said that I would "accept that I won't" because I don't have any issues not playing out-of-region games. All the back-up games that I need/want/have are in-region.

For the record, I already own a copy of SSBB -first game I bought- but it was scratched only a few weeks after purchase and won't run.

Having read the rules, I'm sorry, I truly don't mean to sound like a noob, but I'm still lost about the internet thing. I don't intend to use cheat codes to access online play; I just want to be able to connect to my wireless so I can use the internet channel. Now can you help me?
