dvd error, is it needed trucha bug to be enabled again?

Hello, I have been searching the thread for a similar issue but I have no luck. A friend show me his wii 4.2u "softmodded" he has it for a couple of years working fine, he said he was playing south africa world cup backup game and suddenly it prompted a disk error and after that the wii stopped to read any kind of disks (originals and backups). He gave me the console to see if I can help him, as I can see the HBC and DVDX were removed only bootmii as boot2 was installed. I have managed to reinstall HBC, DVDX and bootmii as boot2 and bootmii as an IOS, got cios249 rev17 installed and neogamma R8b15. The error I got in neogamma is 1048, I know that is a dvd error but it doesn't read any original games at all.

I know that it could be mean, a laser lens replacement needed, but I have ran Sign Check and I've got the following report:

I don't know if the problem has something to do with the ios36 and ios70 that they have no trucha bug enabled. I just want to run out of options before I tear apart the dvd drive to replace the laser lens. If there's already a solution for this issue, please forgive to double post, as I didn't find any that could give me an idea, if a moderator consider to close and/or remove this post, please feel free to do it.

    Thank you.

My question is, how did anything get installed in the first place without a trucha bug (unless perhaps Messie's guide was used)? As you mention, IOS 36 and 70 aren't patched --- certainly you don't have Priiloader installed in this case. Error Index extract:

    1048, 1053 & 1101:
DVD Read Error Bad burn/media or incorrect cios/neogamma version. If you are laready using Verbatim DVD-r burned at 4x, try switching to neogammar6 and cios36rev10 (will not work for new wiis/this has worked only for LU39 models). Also this error will persist on newer wiis, meaning that they have the new D3-2 chip which cannot read backups at all. Only option for them is USB loading.

    Red face

oh nevermind, I have enabled trucha bug on IOS36, still the same.... tear apart the wii removed the dvd drive, installed another to test and it reads discs...

Conclusion, after reinstalling the softmod, restoring trucha to IOS36 still doesn't read any disc, it is needed to replace the laser lens.
