    D2C Wii not reading disks

After a couple of years of fautless use, my Wii has decided to stop reading all disks this morning. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I am happy enough replacing the drive which I guess is the fault but isnt that where the chip is and I can't remove and resolder it nor do I really want to buy a new mod.
Is there anythng worth doing to try and fix this or should I look at a soft mod and external hard drive? If so, what is the best option for me? I'm running 4.2E firmware.

    Thanks

modchip was on the electronic module of the dvd-rom. perhaps, it could be removed and resolder at wish. Yet, i guess the chip is still ok but a dirty laser head resists reading all discs (generic and iso). Verify it before ur next move.
However, the modchip, whether in good or bad condition, would not affect ur success of Softmod at 4.2E. After softmod, u've more fun playing with usbLoaders, and less chance of being bricked by out-of-region games.

Most likely you will only have to replace the DVD pickup inside the drive. You can get one on eBay for around $15 and it's not too hard to replace. This should fix the problem and you won't have to mess around with re-soldering your modchip.
