Wii 4.2E PAL softmodded-gecko OS installed...can I play original NTSC game discs?

Hv installed HBC + DVDX + Bootmii as an IOS. I have also backed up NAND on my SD card. Hv installed Gecko 1.9.3.1 OS. Can I now play NTSC original game discs (my Wii is PAL and brand new) by forcing NTSC through Gecko? Any risks with hidden updates on the original discs that could brick my Wii? Any safer way to play the NTSC discs that can help avoid brikking? Thx

Yes updating through an out of region disk will brick your wii. You can install priiloader to block this.
If you get the update nag, you may as well go through the whole softmod guide and that will prepare you for anything.

Hi oddgriffin, thx..If I do play the original game discs, will it not ask me before running an update? or do the updates start automatically as soon as I launch the game and brick my wii?

I am not sure how that works on gecko, since most of us are completely softmodded and never use it. You are getting into some risky territory so it would be best to do the whole softmod so that you can install prilloader to prevent this.

In this list of links, use the 4.2 guide. You can skip the homebrew bootmi part since you did that already. Just put the files on there and go from there.

Thx...oddgriffin. Wish me luck. I have read the guide now. After I install priiloader, I am presuming that instead of usbloader gx, I can opt for Gecko Os and then safely launch my NTSC discs...is this correct?

If you follow that 4.2 guide completely, you can install your retail disks to a harddrive or a flashdrive and be done with using disks. Usbloader gx has a nice animated menu and will create a database of all the installed games.
Yes you can launch the retail disks through gecko, and priiloader will protect you if you enable the block updates from disk hack.

OK....since I have HBC channel installed, and looking at the 4.2 guide to install priiloader, I can skip steps 1 and 2. I do not belive that I need all the files below to go to step 3. Thus, I can delete the files highlighted below in red and keep the rest to proceed to step 3.....is this correct?

    X:\apps\
    X:\00000001\
    X:\wad\
    X:\private\
    X:\boot.elf
    X:\IOS38-64-v3610.wad
    X:\IOS36-64-v3351.wad
    X:\IOS15-64-v523.wad
    X:\IOS15-64-v257.wad

On step 4, "Under currently installed, you should 'Stub',"...what is stub?

I would do exactly as the guide says including keepin the files on there, but you don't have to actually run the hackmii installer again that would install homebrew and bootmi so you can skip the actual step.
Stubs are what nintendo put on your system to keep you from softmodding, this guide will walk you through removing them.
Any other questions about the guide should be asked in the thread of the guide, as we have experts constantly watching for new posts/questions.
