Thumbs up How to tell which modchip my Wii has?

    Hello,

I've recently bought a secondhand Wii and so far I'm a totally new with Wii's and I've got some questions about it:

    - How can I tell which which modchip is in my Wii?
    - What does having a bricked Wii mean? (is it related to going online with a modded Wii?)
    - What are channels? and what can I do with them?

    Thanks!

    Bee

Hi Bee, welcome to the WiiHacks community.

    1) Did you ask the person from whom purchased the wii? that would be the easiest way. Otherwise you have to open up the Wii to really know what chip is installed for sure.

    2) One of the ways that the Wii can be bricked is by updating the Wii firmware from a game that is of different region than the wii. So brick blocking is a method to remove the update from the iso of the Wii game before buring it to the disc. This can be done using app called Wiu1.1.

    3) Channels can be applications, games, information that you see when you first turn on the Wii, E.G Weather, News, Shopping, etc are all channels. When you install a VC/WiiWare game it gets its own channel. You can also install a Homebrew channel that opens up the world to the Wii in terms of apps/games/tools created by third party people.

There is a lot of information regarding all of this in the forums if you wish read further.

    Thanks for your kind reply

I did ask the person who I bought it from, but he had no idea which chip it has either. He said he took it to some guy who mods Wii's as a business. I've tried contacting him too but I don't get a response from him...
Is there no other way of telling without opening the Wii? (I've read you need some special triangulair (sp?) screwdriver for that)

I'll read up on the rest Any threads in particulair that I should read?

    Thanks!
