Games freezing both Neogamma & USB Loader

hi guys i purchased a new black wii over xmas. It has the firmware 4.1E. I have fully followed the walkthru and have fully installed the Homebrew channel and have got Neogamma on there along with USB Loader GX.

Neogamma detects the games in the Iomega 250 gb usb HD I have (i found it to be compatible based on an excel type spreadsheet that shows all the compatible HD's with the wii) and it lets me scroll through them for the required choice. Once the game is loaded (you get the usual start up screens etc) i notice that the light on my Hard drive goes out now and again.

Once the light of the hard drive goes out either the game freezes or just does not load up at all. I noticed loading New Super Mario Bros wii that the game loaded up then the hard drive light went out - i took the usb cable for the HD out and put it back in then the game worked once more. After about 30 secs or so the HD light went out again.

Is this due to the new black wii that I have or is it the HD (as i have read that nintendo have some stuff to the new black wii meaning it doesn't read DVD-R's etc) Could it be due to the iso's that I have on the HD? (its all formatted WFSB and Neogamma reads the games on there?) I am very confused about it all

    Your help is much appreciated!!

    I love your username! <whistles YNWA>

It's more than likely just the game, it either needs a fix or a particular IOS to be installed.

Does it do it on every game, or just one game or 2 out of many?

    black wii 4.1e

try formating to fat32 ( if your drive is large use FAT32 Format 1.01 from here The Portable Freeware Collection - FAT32 Format)
use WiiBackupManager to put games on hd.
use configurable usb loader along with ios 222 to load fat partition games should work.
does for me using black wii with 4.1e and medion 500gb drive and go .

aah i was hoping a fellow red would help me out

well the strange thing is one of the many games loading on the HD by a mate of mine was ben 10 alien force - i booted that one up first and it worked fine and then later it would freeze up on start up. Same goes for every other game on the HD (around 100 odd).

i thought that the drive could only be on WSFB format for negamma etc to read it?

Right - so every game now freezes, but they were all working fine at one point in the not too distant past?

Do you know how to plug the drive into Windows and copy a game from the USB HDD back to the PC making an ISo out of it using WBFS Manager?

And no - your USB HDD can be a full FAT32 partitioned drive and it will work just as good as a WBFS does and you can see it & manage it in Windows.

I've explained it all before in these threads:

here's a reply to my problem from another thread:

"One problem with certain manufacturers is that they do not make all their own hard drive components and so the variations can just drive us all nuts. What you are seeing, thank you for your accurate description, is the drive powering down. As the Wii is not a PC, it does not send the "Working" signal back to the HDD that an PC would-your HDD is essentially falling asleep on the job. If there is a utility disc with your HDD, use it to set the sleep/hibernation/power down to NEVER or something as long as possible.

Also try it where you startup your loader and then when it is looking for the HDD, plug your Iomega in then and see if that helps-a bit of a bother to have to do repeatedly, I know. Otherwise, your particular Iomega HDD is not very compatible-not because the Wii can use it, but because the HDD keeps sleeping. Good luck to you."

any observations regarding this? it was my cousin who formatted the hard drive to WFSB and he said that he initially had problems doing this and then he eventually managed to do it. Im wondering whether the HD is compatible at all - if not anyone got any idea's of good and cheap alternatives (around 200-250gb size?)
