Black Screen, Wiimotes flashing, Disc drive whirring, HELP!

    Hey All,

I recently bought a secondhand Wii, and have been loving it (3.2u).

It already had Homebrew, Coverflow etc on it. I've been using an external HDD to load in games. I've also just recently bought MotionPlus controllers.

So here is what happened. I had the MotionPlus controller attached to a Wiimote. The Wii was on and my girlfriend started playing with the controller and disconnected the MotionPlus add-on.

I then started playing Wii Sports tennis and noticed the Wiimote appeared to be out of synch (not all swings were connecting).

Then i'm not sure what happened, but I tried synching the Wiimote, restarted and had a black screen.

When I press any of the buttons on the Wiimote all the lights flash. I cannot turn the Wii off or on from the Wiimote either (but I don't think I ever could).

When I start the Wii, the blue disc drive light flashes once, the resolutions changes on my screen, the disc driver starts whirring, making loading, grinding type sounds and then it stops and nothing happens and the resolution changes on the screen (1080pi flashes up on my TV screen)

I can't synch the Wiimotes and nothing loads.

I know there are some other threads on Black Screens but I don't think this was caused by installing any new apps or anything. I'm a bit of newbie and would really be so grateful if anyone can help.

I'm really gutted, I've just got into gaming and was loving my Wii, I feel quite devastated and confused.

I hope someone can help me

Flashing 4 leds usually means its trying to sunc with the wii, a wiimote shouldnt really effect the wii directly with whirring noises, etc, I think the issue is more to do with the wii not working, and your wii trying to connect.

Have you got prii/preloder and bootmi.

Maybe a disc update has messed up your system?

Hi thanks for replying Yellow Peril. I've tried normal batteries too.

I still get a Black Screen on startup, and nothing happens.

Switch the wii on whilst holding down the reset button.

Fingers crossed this will load prii/preloader.

From there you hopefully can load the homebrew channel and check the wads installed on your system.
Now hopefully one of the guru's will be able to help you a little more on this as I cant really say what you are to do to do a repair. I really dont want to advise you to do something that could make things worse.

But I do know that if you can get into prii/preloader your possibly a third of the way to fix your system.

I know from reading the forums, that some games (if your playing an ISO image from a ntfs partition, that hasnt been brickblocked (disc update thingy) then you may have updated the wii with a game update that could break some of the IOS's that the softmods use.

    hmmmmmm

OK just had a thought, do you have your wii booting directly into coverflow, or did you have it as a homebrew channel via the system menu ?
It could be that you have removed the SD card, or removed some files from the SD card that are required when your system boots up?

Just speculating here, will wait for your answer.

yellowperil, i dont think hes saying he cant get his wii mote to work, hes saying his screen is black, not the health screen.

Kafkasong, is your light red wshen you turn it off or is it yellow? if its yellow hold down the button for 30 seconds and wait till it turns red then try turning it on. If that doesnt work, i think a brick. DO NOT TAKE MY WORD IT IS A BRICK. It is just a geuss. i never bricked a wii beofre, it just sounds like what a bricked wii does.

Hey YellowPeril, thanks heaps for such a detailed response, always amazed how generous and kind people are in situations like this!

I just followed your advice and tried holding the reset button down whilst switching it on, nothing happened unfortunately. It just went to the black screen.

I had homebrew and coverflow booting from the system menu.

The other thing I just realised I did before this happened was install NeoGamma R8RC1, and I think I loaded Wii Sports with it.

Could this connected do you think?

Hi Happytreefriends when I turned it off the light is red. I so hope it's not bricked, I will so frustrated and annoyed. Thanks for your suggestion though, it's appreciated.
