Help with 4.2E FW, HBC etc installed. Backups dont load.

    Hey all.

First of all, i've followed the Amarokz Guide to softmodd a 4.2E Wii (old wii, but updated to latest fw).

HBC is installed and I am 100% confident I've succeded in all the steps of that guide (100% sure that it happened as that guide described it, i might add).

After that I downloaded the Neogamma R8 15 WAD-file and installed it via WAD Manager 1.5, and it shows up from the Wii menu.

Thing is, when i try to start a backup (Verbatim DVD-R, 2X, IMG Burn, DVD Decrypter, Nero - doesnt matter) and press "launch game" i get the GAME ID tag and everything, then the Wii just re-boots and goes back into the Wii menu. Doesn't matter which backup i try, same with all.

    Retails work fine.

    What can possibly cause this?
When i start NeoGamma R8 at the bottom of the screen it says "cIOS 249 rev 14", have googled and some (this forum included) says it should state "cIOS249rev14".

Anyone got any ideas of whats wrong?

    It seems like you either;

    1) Haven't Removed the stubIOS249

    or

    2) Don't have the needed IOSs installed, such as IOS55, 53 etc.

    Follow this tutorial here; http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...tem-menus.html

It has been used by many people including myself and work's like a charm if you follow it properly.

Been looking into that thread as well, just want to make sure... is it SAFE to do *all of that guide from beginning to the end* when I've done some tweaks/mods allready?

Yes it is safe. Just look at what you've done so far and continue from there. It also won't hurt to just "start over". You can reinstall everything you already have, just in the order of the guide if you want. You'll be fine as long as you don't uninstall any IOSs.

Just did it from scratch now, and still same issue. It detects game-id, screen goes green for 0,5 sec then black and wii-reboots into Wii menu again.

No clue what I've missed, or have done that I shouldn't.

    And I've tried re-installing IOS 53, 55, 70 using IOS249 and DOP-IOS V9, no luck.
Dont know if it helps, but the Wii menu says "unknown disc" and some yada yada that i should check it.
From all that I've read, only newer Wii's should have a drive that won't read burnt DVD's? I have that feeling that it's as if the Wii won't read the discs.

Yeah, I wouldn't think that you'd have a D3 drive in your Wii because you said it was old. If your Wii has a serial number greater than LU64, then it is a good possibility.

What games are you trying to load? I had this same issue when I first tried to run new games like NSMB Wii without patching it or installing the latest IOSs. The black screen, then reboot is usually caused by not having the right IOS.

You said the Wii Menu says "unknown disc", if you are talking about the disc channel on the Wii menu, this is because you do not have cIOSCORP installed. DO NOT install cIOSCORP unless you have done extensive research about cIOSCORP and you have lots of knowledge about softmods. For instance, if you don't know how to fix "upside down homebrew channel" which is caused by cIOSCORP, then don't install it.

You should also try using an external HDD to load your games. If the games work in there, but not on disc, then you would know for sure it's your DVD drive.

@cobourg; if you are talking about your HDD only working when plugged into one USB port, that's a common problem. It's actually not really a problem, I know that I have to have my USB plugged into the lower USB port, or else USB Loader GX can't read it.

This Wii is a LEH12 serial, so it shouldn't be the new drive... it's like 3 years old if not even more.

The game I'm trying to load is actually NSMB, retail works backup dont.
Just interested, since i tried with " a bad game ", what do i have to patch to the iso just to check if it works? And about IOS's, which more IOS do i need for i.e NSMB?

Haven't installed cIOSCORP, have read a lot about it but for the moment if I get this to work I won't install it. I do consider myself and advanced softmodder Just not Wii. Done plenty 360s, dsi's, xbox's and work as IT Tech. And also Solder Certificate Space Class 3 , just wanted to install modchip after i've got the softmod to work.

So should I try with another game? Unfortunately where I am right now only capacity on USB is 4GB or I'd try the USB Loader.

Games I tried with; NSMB, Wii Resort (patched it according to sticky-guide)

Edit: It seem as if it works, and probably have worked since first try.... shoot me for not trying games that work easily ^^. Made a test-disc with Transformers and it loaded flawlessly. So is there a list with softmod-compatible games anywhere? as NSMB and Wii Resort for some reason wouldn't load.
